SDF February elective convention in jeopardy!.

Ni John Fru Ndi: SDF National Chairman

Dark clouds now hover over the long-awaited elective convention of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, scheduled for February this year.

This follows a legal battle orchestrated by a group of over 30 bigwigs of the frontline opposition political party.

The party heavyweights are challenging several decisions taken by the leadership of the party in recent times.

The disgruntled party officials, according to a complaint seen by The Guardian Post, have dragged the National Chairman of the party, Ni John Fru Ndi, and the party’s Secretary General, Barrister Djomgang Adeline, to court.

They are accusing both top SDF officials of repeated violation of the text of the political outfit.

The two senior officials of the SDF are expected to appear before judges at the Mfou Magistrate Court in the Mefou and Afamba Division of the Centre region.

Both Ni John Fru Ndi and the party’s scribe were recently individually served summons with hearing set to open this February.

The complainants, including well known bigwigs of the SDF, are praying the court to cause Fru Ndi to revoke certain decisions affecting the life of the party, which they say, were unilaterally taken.

They are accusing Fru Ndi of grossly violating certain provisions of the text of the party and of “highhandedness”.

They want the court to cancel resolutions of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of July 23, 2022 as well as the  annulment of Decision N°003/022 signed on June 07, 2022 by the National Chairman of the SDF, appointing members of the Shadow Cabinet.

Others include the annulment of a communique signed on July 24, 2022 by the Secretary General of the SDF.

They have also picked holes in a decision signed last year by Fru Ndi, which summarily dissolved regional organs of the SDF ahead of the planned elective convention.

Revisiting last year’s appointment of members into the Shadow Cabinet of the SDF, the complainants said Fru Ndi carried out the exercise in gross violation of the text of the party.

They said according to the text of the SDF, such appointments ought to have been carried out after wide consultation “on the basis of their knowledge and experience in the various fields of activity concerned". This was never done, according to their complaint.

“…the Regional presidents were not consulted, in violation of the text…under Article 7(c) IV of the constitution, any member of the National Executive Committee must have been an active member for five (5) consecutive years. However, among the people appointed to the Shadow Cabinet, some of them have never been active in the SDF before,” the complainants wrote.

They said after failing to consult the party, the SDF National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, had unilaterally taken the decision to appoint Shadow Cabinet members and only informed NEC members through a press conference held in Yaounde “in violation of the party's statutes”.
