October Poll: UMS’ Kwemo storms major streets, communities in Centre, West regions.

Kwemo engaging population at Messassi Market in Yaounde

The candidate of the Union of Socialist Movements, UMS party, for the October 12 poll, Hon Pierre Kwemo, has staged campaigns in several neighbourhoods in Yaounde and others in the West Region.

The exercise which flagged off last Wednesday, was punctuated by meetings in Mbankolo, Etoudi and Briqueterie in Yaounde.

During the stops, the candidate promised reforms in taxation, the management of state resources and other issues which he said have hindered growth.

The tour also took the UMS leader to Makenene in the Mbam and Inoubou Division of the Centre Region. He has also campaigned in Tonga and Bantoum in the Nde Division of the West Region.

One-on-one campaign in Yaounde

In Yaounde, Hon Kwemo toured the Mbankolo, Briqueterie, Etoa-Meki and other neighborhoods.

Still in the capital city, he visited the Messassi Market where he had one-on-one interactions with members of the public, motorcycle riders, taxi drivers and petty traders informally referred to as buyam-sellams.

During the outing, the candidate promised to nationalize all state corporations if elected president during the October 12 poll. He criticized the current regime for giving foreign bodies the leeway to exploit Cameroon.

At the Messasi Market, Hon Kwemo said if elected, he will dialogue with the Cameroonians to adjust the mandate of the post of Head of State.

“The duration of the mandate is something that we will all look at if I am elected. For instance, if the Cameroonian people decide that mandate should be five years, so shall it be,” Hon Kwemo stated.

Tax reforms

The UMS flagbearer also promised to address issues related to tax. He said his government will introduce tax reforms to lighten the tax burden on entrepreneurs and other small businesses.

The candidate further amplified the tax talks in Makenene where he referenced the strides that he made during his seven-year reign as Mayor of the Bafang Council in the West Region and his efforts at the parliamentary level.

“I have been in the National Assembly for 20 years. I spent seven years at the helm of the Bafang Council. Those of you who know the Bafang Council, are taxes paid in Bafang?” the UMS boss questioned rhetorically amid thunderous cheers from the population.

“There are some contracts in Bafang that are not even paid for in terms of taxes. That is the system that we will introduce all over the national territory if elected,” the candidate further stated.

In Tonga in the Nde Division, Hon Kwemo urged the population to demonstrate their frustration and anger by voting him as Head of State next Sunday.

“The message has to get to the very last person in the interior. This regime that has been in power for 43 years and killed the dreams of young people has its destiny on your hands,” the UMS leader stated.

In next door Bantoum, the UMS candidate appealed to the population to look beyond the Biya regime and vote for change.

“In Bantoum, I feel at home because Bantoum is my home. After 43 years, we need a real change. We are tired of unfilled promises. Can we once again to accept unfilled promises?” the candidate stated.
