October 12 poll campaign: Minister calls for strict health measures during rallies.

Dr Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health

The Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie, has called for strict health measures as campaigns for the October 12 presidential election gain steam nationwide. The information is contained in a release he signed recently.

The minister in the statement insisted that all public gatherings linked to the presidential campaign should involve the Public Health Emergencies and Events, PHEE. He citing the potential health risks associated with large crowds.

According to him, the measures are needed to prevent possible public health incidents that may arise from the huge influx of people during rallies, processions, and other political demonstrations.

Dr Manaouda noted that while the democratic process must unfold freely, it should not compromise the safety and wellbeing of citizens.

The minister disclosed that he has urged all candidates to work closely with the devolved services of the Ministry of Public Health nationwide.

The teams, he noted, are responsible for ensuring that adequate health coverage such as first aid posts, medical staff, and sanitary protocols are put in place during campaign activities.

Dr Manaouda further highlighted that the initiative aligns with Article 93(2) of the Electoral Code, which underscores the importance of maintaining public order during electoral processes.

He called on all political actors to demonstrate responsibility and cooperate with health authorities to guarantee safe and smooth campaigns.

“The goal is not only to protect the participants but also to preserve the overall public health landscape as the nation exercises its democratic right,” the release stated.

He insisted that as the campaign season intensifies, the directives serve as a reminder that safeguarding citizens’ health remains a shared responsibility between political leaders, health officials, and the public.

Dr Manaouda said he is counting “on the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure that the election campaign runs smoothly in a spirit of accountability, prevention and protection of public health”.
