For excellent service: 200 UBA Cameroon staff awarded labour medals.

Some 200 workers of the United Bank for Africa, UBA Cameroon, have been awarded labour medals for their outstanding service in the growth of the company.

The workers were awarded Friday, February 17.  This was during a ceremony in Douala.  The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona.

Minister Owona was assisted in the exercise by the Senior Divisional Officer for the Wouri, Benjamin Mboutou, the Divisional Officer, DO, for Douala V, Dr. Anuafor Cletus Asongwe, and the DOs for Douala 1, 2, 3, and 4 Sub Divisions. The workers received silver, gilt, and gold medals.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of UBA Cameroon, Jude Anele, congratulated the staff for what he said was their relentless service to the bank in the last 15 years since it went operational in Cameroon.

To note that UBA went operational in Cameroon in 2007. Today, the bank has spread to seven out of the 10 regions of the national triangle with 20 branches to serve its increasing clientele.

Anele said the bank’s rapid expansion is the product of the effectiveness and integrity of its workers. The UBA Cameroon boss said the awarded staff can pride themselves to be hard working men and women.

 

Lauds gov’t for enabling environment

The UBA Cameroon MD/CEO also used Friday’s event to thank the Cameroon government for the enabling environment that gave his institution the room for growth. He also saluted the support received from the Ministry of Labour and Social security.

He said despite the challenges encountered, the Bank is proud of its achievements in the last 15 years.

UBA committed to serving Cameroon

Amid the celebration of the staff, the UBA Cameroon Managing Director reiterated the commitment of his company to keep serving Cameroonians and contributing to development.

“Your unflinching support through the years has been our driving force. This medal award ceremony testifies to UBA's willingness to continue serving Cameroon,” Anele stated.

He further noted, "It shows that we also recognise hard work. We believe that Cameroon is blessed with talented human resources…We shall continue to train and work with them, we are proud of our people today who have received medals in silver, gilt, and gold and we know that, the best is yet to come".

Within the last 15 years, UBA Cameroon has contributed to the development of human capital and job creation for young Cameroonians. The Managing Director, Jude Anele, has enjoined all those approaching retirement age, to remain active players in society.

 

Labour minister salutes UBA Cameroon

While awarding the medals, Minister Owona on behalf of the Head of State, saluted UBA Cameroon for contributing its quota to Cameroon’s development.

He commended the effective implementation of social policies. The minister took delight in the Bank’s interest in taking good care of staff amid global shocks. The minister also urged the bank’s management to uphold social dialogue.

To the UBA Cameroon staff, the minister prescribed hard work to earn more decorations in the future.
Gregoire Owona also talked of the promotion of female leadership and the need for staff to continue sharing in the company’s profits.

 

Staff delegate expresses to UBA management

Tella Eric Martial, laureate, and staff representative, during the event, paid tribute to fallen workers before saluting the management of UBA Cameroon for rewarding its workers.

The staff representative said recognitions such as the medals awarded to them Friday represent a golden point in their careers. In his remarks, he called on management to improve retirement benefits so that bankers can live fulfilled lives upon retirement emphasising the need for effective dialogue between employees and management for the good of all parties.

In appreciation, gold medalist, Forba Jacob, thanked all those who supported him throughout his career in his service to UBA's customers.

Every medal, he said, “represents a new challenge. I can't be contented with just this one. I have to work harder to have more, that said; I call on my colleagues looking up to me to respect the professional code of ethics which remains the core of the banking sector".
