FIBA World Cup qualifiers: Cameroon set to host Group A matches July.

Cameroon is expected to host the second leg of Group A matches in the African zonal qualifiers to the 2027 Basketball World Cup in July.

According to sources, the Cameroon Basketball Federation, FECABASKET, has selected the gymnasium of the Japoma Stadium in Douala as the venue of the four-day gathering.

FECABASKET which is the management body in charge of basketball in Cameroon is yet to confirm whether or not Cameroon has indeed been handed the hosting rights of the decisive leg in the race to the Qatar 2027 global tournament.

However, recent actions taken by the federation has left observers and bookmakers clearing all potential doubts about the development.

FECABASKET technically lifted the cover on the topic last week when it made a social media post asking followers of its social media handles to predict the country that will host Group A matches in the next window of the African zonal qualification campaign for the 2027 World Cup showpiece.

Cameroon is paired in Group A of the opening round of the ongoing African regional qualifying series alongside giants South Sudan, Cabo Verde and Libya.

The choice of choosing Cameroon as the host nation of the forthcoming Group A event has been positively welcomed by fans and supporters of the Basketball Lions team which is seeking to reach the final phase of the Basketball World Cup for the first time.

This, the fans and supporters say, is strongly pointing to the fact that the home advantage has the potential of further facilitating the qualification task for the Basketball Lions.

Several of the supporters and fans fell deeply in love with the team following its impressive showing in Tunisia in November last year in the first window of the Group A qualifiers, an event which came just after the selection's run to the semifinals of the African championships in Angola earlier in the same year.

Cameroon is presently ranked second in the qualifying group after beating Libya and giants South Sudan in November in the window one gathering.

Following the performance, the team presently stands out as one of the favorites to claim one of the group's three qualification tickets to the second round alongside South Sudan and Island nation, Cabo Verde which handed the Basketball Lions their lone defeated during the Tunisia leg.

But the development of Cameroon's selection as the host of the forthcoming series has not been welcomed without controversies.

Observers have questioned the reasoning behind FECABASKET's choice of choosing the gymnasium of the Japoma Stadium in Douala over the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

The Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex which has a seating capacity of over 5000 thousand places is regarded as a much better option compared to the gymnasium of the Japoma Stadium.

The Yaounde facility has hosted almost all the major high-profile international indoor sports competitions that Cameroon has organized since the facility was opened some 16 years ago.

Sixteens teams are competing in the ongoing African zonal qualification campaign for the 2027 Basketball World Cup competition.

The top three teams in each of the four pools of four teams will qualify for the second and final round where they will split into two pools of six to battle for the continent's five allocated qualification tickets.

The 2027 Basketball World Cup, the 20th edition of the world's biggest men's international basketball competition, will take place in Qatar between August and September next year, assembling 32 nations from across the globe.
