At 2025 AGM: Rainbow-Cam to develop human capital of affiliate credit unions.

Board Members and authorities

Apex organ for category one microfinance institutions, Rainbow Cooperative Credit Union of Cameroon, Rainbow-Cam, has revealed that key plans for 2026 include focusing on skills development and human capital investment for its members.

The management of Rainbow-Cam made the disclosure during the union’s 2025 Annual General Meeting, AGM, which took place on Saturday April 18, 2026, in Bamenda.

The annual event was attended by the Board President, HRH Fo Angwafor IV; the General Manager, Bih Rose Fru; members of the Supervisory Board, affiliates including General Managers and Presidents.

Also present was the Divisional Officer of Bamenda II Subdivision, Ibrahima Moussa Ballo, and others.

2026 projects of Rainbow-Cam

During the AGM, the management of Rainbow-Cam outlined that skills acquisition will be one of their priorities in 2026. This, they noted, will come through the Rainbow Higher Institute of Applied Microfinance Management, RHIAM.

Created in December 2025 and set to go operational in May 2026, the institution has as its mission to: train highly skilled, ethical, and industry-ready professionals capable of immediately contributing to the financial services sector.

The institution, which management said offers hands-on professional training to the public and most importantly, to its affiliates to perfect their skills and become professionals in the business.

According to the General Manager of Rainbow-Cam, Bih Rose Fru, the institution will also train some of the finest brains in the microfinance sector, which affiliates can easily absorb ino their institutions.

“We have realised that there is a skill gap. Once graduates leave the universities, their incubation into microfinance institutions usually takes a lot of time. So, this institute is coming to fill in that skill gap and ensure that we have the best. And it being the baby of Rainbow, we are certain that our affiliates will pick the best from that institution, and that will have a multiplier effect on the results that will be given in the years to come,” Bih Rose said.

 Members/Affiliates during AGM

According to the Board Chair of RHIAM, Tanyi Christain, who doubles as Vice President of the Board, human capital is highly valued in the microfinance sector, reason Rainbow-Cam decided to expand in this direction.

“The skill gap is huge, and because credit unions are driven by human resources, we are also investing a lot consciously, or intentionally, in making sure that our apex and our affiliates have the best human capital that is needed to drive and sustain our mandates,” Tanyi said.

On his part, the Board President of Rainbow-Cam, HRH Fo Angwafor IV, said the institution will also provide training to members and affiliates to ensure that those who enter into the business as amateurs gain some experience and skills.

“We want to build capacity, human capital, in our various affiliates. We prioritise training, and so training of the Board members, the elected Board members, training of our General Managers, training of our workers, those in the loan department, and also the control unit, because those are the people who control the key sectors in their various institutions. So, we are prioritising training. And by this, we have noticed that there is a serious problem within the sector with a lot of amateurs, who venture into the sector as finance experts,” Fo Angwafor IV said.

Other projects outlined to be highly beneficial to affiliates include the Cocoa and Coffee Sub-sector Development Fund, CCODEF, and the Project for the Acceleration of Digital Transformation of Cameroon, PATNUC. These projects, which the management of Rainbow-Cam says will continue in 2026, are already benefiting affiliates like BafCCUL, KomCCUL, and others.

Computerisation of affiliates, investment in Momocash, and production of union fabric are also other projects earmarked for 2026.

2025 achievements

Amongst key achievements of Rainbow-Cam in 2025 was the launching of the Rainbow Higher Institute of Applied Microfinance Management, RHIAM in Buea.

As part of its mission to computerise all affiliates, over ten affiliates of Rainbow-Cam were computerised in 2025. This, the union said, will help in the digitisation process, as the world is shifting from manual.

There is continued studies on the MY EAFAT project, aim at developing a mobile phone application to manage agricultural finances within their network. Through this app, farmers will be able to get farm inputs and also market their outputs by simply placing an order or making their goods available for sale.

The union also carried out several trainings to upgrade staff skills and affiliates.

In 2025, Rainbow-Cam created the Buea office, which is already operational and serves both the South West and Littoral Regions.

The network of Rainbow-Cam witnessed significant growth in 2025, rising from 46 to 50 affiliates. The management noted that they are still studying the files of several other affiliates who submitted applications. This takes the union to a consolidated membership of 145, 926, as at December 2025.

The union also witnessed an increase in savings from over 72,327,292,357 FCFA in 2024 to 87,271,433,707 FCFA as of December 2025. This represents an increase of 21 percent.
