At launch of FENASSCO ‘A’: Minister Nalova Lyonga warns against violence, calls for fair play.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga, has called for the respect of rules and impartiality at the ongoing edition of FENASSCO League “A” Games.

Speaking at the start of the games Monday April 20 in Bafoussam of the West Region, Minister Nalova Lyonga insisted on zero tolerance for any form of violence, before describing sport as a “true school of life”.



For the Minister, the ongoing annual event is more than a sporting competition. 

The games launched at the Grand Stand of Government High School Bafoussam, has transformed the venue into a vibrant stage for youth, national pride, and disciplined ambition.

The opening ceremony co-chaired by the Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga who doubles as Chairperson of the Federal Council of FENASSCO League A, and the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, brought together key figures from Cameroon’s Education and Sports sectors, and some members of Government.

The Members of Government included the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtès, the Minister of Women's Empowerment and the Family, Professor Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Secondary Education in charge of Teacher's Training, Boniface Bayaola, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Basic Education, Dr Asheri Kilo. The Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine was also in attendance.

Their presence underscored the importance of school sports as a tool for character-building, unity, and pathways to excellence.

In his welcome address, the City Mayor of Bafoussam, reaffirmed the town’s commitment to hospitality while emphasising values of fair play, transparency, and inclusion. 

Meanwhile Dr Shewa Madelienne of the FENASSCO Executive Bureau highlighted the three pillars of the Games—Sports, Culture, and Environment—stressing teamwork, solidarity, and the promotion of young girls’ talents as central to this year’s theme.

This year’s event is unfolding under the theme: “FENASSCO: Creating an Inclusive Environment for College Students”.

The launching ceremony Monday featured the lighting of the Olympic Flame by this edition’s mascot, former Indomitable Lion Njeremi Njitap, followed by a parade of ten delegations in vibrant sports and cultural attire. 

The day culminated in a thrilling football match between the female teams of the Centre and West regions, signaling the official start of the competitions.

As the athletes take their marks, the 26th edition of FENASSCO League “A” Games promises to be a celebration of talent, cultural pride, and the enduring values of fairness, tolerance, and inclusion.
