Nagida’s Stade Rennais knocked out of French Cup.

Indomitable Lions defender, Aboubakar Nagida, and his club, Stade Rennais, failed to progress to the quarter-final of the 2026 French Cup.

The Cameroonian international and his team suffered the huge setback after suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Ligue 1 rival Olympic of Marseilles.

This was during a one-sided round 16 clash of the French Cup at the Velodrome stadium on Tuesday February 3, 2026.

Nagida started the game on the bench and was later introduced shortly after the half hour mark to replace Glen Kamara.

It was the first game for Nagida with Rennes since October 29, 2025. The left-back played for 59 minutes and despite showing flashes of his brilliance, his team suffered a heavy defeat. Stade Rennais was already trailing by 1-0 when Nagida came off the bench.

Marseille needed just two minutes to break the deadlock against Rennes when Amine Gouiri scored from close range against his former club, after excellent work from Timothy Weah to recover the ball in the box.

Gouiri then turned provider to set up Mason Greenwood in the 46th minute, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealing the win on the break with seven minutes left.

The defeat ended Stade Rennais’s French Cup campaign. It also extended their search for the French Cup title. They have won the competition twice three times in 1965, 1971 and 2019.

Last year, they exited the competition in the round of 32 after a shocking defeat to Troyes. Marseille’s victory on the other hand atoned for their exit in the UEFA Champions League last week following a 3-0 loss at Club Brugge.

It was an embarrassing defeat that was followed by a 2-2 draw at Paris FC in Ligue 1 on Saturday after Roberto De Zerbi’s players threw away a two-goal lead.

Elsewhere, French Ligue 2 side Reims of Cameroon international defender Samuel Junior Kotto also progressed to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 defeat of Le Mans. Kotto did not feature in the game after being shown red in his last game.

He was sent off at the 24th minute but his club Stade Reims braved their numerical disadvantage to secure a slim 1-0 win over Clemont in the Ligue 2. It was Kotto’s second game since his loan move to the club.
