AFCON 2025: Ex-Lions coach backs team to clinch title, denies resentment.

Marc Brys: Former Cameroon coach

The former head coach of the men’s senior national football team of Cameroon, Marc Brys, says he is rooting for the team to win the 2025 African Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Brys, who was axed by the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, 20 days to the AFCON, has also insisted that he is not resentful.

The gaffer was speaking during an interview he granted to the multimedia brand of Belgian public service radio and television network, Sporza, recently.

In the interview, Brys admitted that he did not watch the team’s thrilling game against South Africa and the “previous ones”.

He stated categorically that “when you are unfairly excluded, you no longer feel like analysing the matches”, and insisting that “that’s the job of the staff who are there”.

According to Brys, the Indomitable Lions have a chance of lifting the coveted trophy. “I sincerely hope that Cameroon will go far and win, he said.

“I am not resentful”

Brys qualified Cameroon for the 2025 AFCON in impressive fashion and was bracing up to lead the team before he was sacked by FECAFOOT, citing “serious misconduct”.

The Belgian coach was appointed by the Ministry of Spots and Physical Education, MINSEP, in April 2024 to replace Rigobert Song.

The decision, Brys claims, was not the right call, but has insisted that he is not “resentful”.

“…I still have contact with the players from time to time. They are happy with the results and regret that the staff and I are not there. They are good guys, very professional. But that is not the case with sports policy,” Brys is quoted to have said during the interview.

Brys went further to add that: “Am I resentful? No, I am not resentful but a coach is in office from the first to the last day of his contract. You are not in the job on and off because someone claims to be above the law”.

It should be recalled that Brys took charge of 15 matches with the Cameroon national team and suffered only one defeat to Cape Verde which cost them a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His record also includes nine wins and five draws.
