Qatar Stars League: Toko Ekambi tipped to make Al Arabi SC debut tomorrow.

Former Cameroon international, Karl Toko Ekambi, is expected to make his debut for Qataris first division championship team, Al Arabi SC this Thursday.

The 33-year-old who joined the seven-time Qataris champions earlier this week, is highly tipped to feature in the team’s decisive showdown with host Al-Wakrah SC in a match day 12 fixture counting for the opening game of the league’s second round.

Al Arabi SC announced the signing of Toko Ekambi earlier this week.

The former Villareal Football Club forward joined the team from Saudi Pro League outfit, Al Fateh where he made seven appearances in the ongoing 2025/2026 campaign.

Per Qatar News Agency, QNA, the former Indomitable Lions striker has been brought in to reinforce Al Arabi SC’s attacking department as the selection continues with its bid of challenging for the league title this term.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medalist is particularly believed to have been signed to cover up for the vacuum that was recently created at the Al Arabi SC’s team’s attack by the unavailability of Jordian forward, Yazan Al Naimat.

Al Naimat ruptured his cruciate ligament late last year while on duty for the Jordanian national team at the 2025 FIFA Araba World Cup in Qatar.

Before departing for the FIFA Araba World Cup showpiece, the 26-year-old had been on a mind-blowing run of six goals and one assists in nine matches for the club across all competitions, including three goals and an assist in eight league fixtures.

Right man for the mission

Toko Ekambi is highly regarded as the right man for the job owing to the brilliant profile that he has built for himself over the last decade.

The former Villareal Football Club and Rennes Football Club forward heads to the Qatar Stars League riding strongly on experiences gathered in the French Ligue 1, Spain’s La Liga and the Saudi Pro League.

The winner of the 2018 Marc Vivien Foe award and La Liga Player of the Month for October 2019 has spent the last close to three years plying his trade for clubs in the Saudi Pro League where he easily established himself as one of the most respected stars in the competition.

Al Arabi SC is currently ranked sixth on the tentative classification table of the ongoing 2025/2026 campaign in the Qatar Stars League.

The team has 17points after registering five victories, two draws and four defeats during the recently concluded first round of the 12-club competition.

The seven-time champions who are chasing their first title in the competition since 1997, are placed seven points behind league leaders, Al Gharafa Sports Club.

A top two finish in the ongoing campaign will see the club qualifying for the 2026/2027 edition of the Asian Champions League.
