AFCON: Lions back in Agadir for Morocco clash Friday.

The men’s senior national football team of Cameroon are back to their base in Agadir to begin preparations for their crunch 2025 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, quarter-final clash against hosts, Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions returned to the Southwestern Moroccan city shortly after securing qualification for the last eight of the ongoing AFCON.

They held on to defeat South Africa 2-1 in Rabat with goals from defender Junior Tchamadeu and rangy target man Christian Kofane, who scored his second goal of the tournament.

Ahead of their quarter-final game against Morocco, the team held a training session yesterday at 6:00pm Cameroon time at the Stade Abdelaziz Rifki d’Anza.

The session was an opportunity for the head coach of the team David Pagou to begin plotting for the downfall of their Moroccan counterparts as they remain poised to secure the title.

Captain Nouhou Tolo and his teammates had recovery sessions, focusing on defence, attacks, ball possession, and passing drills, while also doing workouts to ensure peak readiness for the game.

The match will take place on Friday January 9 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat at 8:00pm local time.

The Cameroon national team is hoping for a repeat of the 1988 AFCON when they defeated hosts Morocco in the semi-final and went on to edge Nigeria 1-0 to lift the trophy.

But it promises to be a stern test of the Central African nation despite their resurgence on the continental stage.

Morocco is unbeaten in their last 37 home matches with 32 wins and five draws. The last team to beat the Atlas Lions was the Indomitable Lions on November 14, 2009.

Cameroon is hoping to inspire itself from their unbeaten run in the competition. They finished second in group F with two wins against Gabon and Mozambique and a draw against holders Cote d’Ivoire.

It is worth mentioning that Cameroon and Morocco are part of the quarter-final bound nations. Several teams have also booked their place including Senegal, Mali, last edition vice champions Nigeria and record seven-time winners Egypt.

Mozambique, which was among the four teams that finished third in their AFCON 2025 group, was knocked out after defeats in their round of 16 match. The others; Sudan, Tanzania, and Benin suffered the same fate.
