Cameroon’s mineral potentials have been sold to local and international investors, financial institutions, researchers, mining operators, and other stakeholders at the Cameroon International Mining and Exhibition Convention, CIMEC. This was during the 4th edition of CIMEC, organised by the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, MINMIDT. It took place at the Yaounde Conference Centre, from May 22 to 24.

It held under the theme: “The transition from geological potential to mining and production as means of enhancing economic growth in the sub-region”.

The three-day event coincided with the meeting of OACPS ministers of mines.

CIMEC was marked by exhibition, roundtable discussions, presentations, sealing of partnership deals and award of prizes.

Closing proceedings of the mining convention, the Interim MINMIDT boss, Prof Fuh Calistus Gentry, appraised the intensity, constructiveness and bright prospects for Cameroon's mining sector, which characterised the fourth edition of CIMEC.

He then expressed gratitude to the different stakeholders for their contribution and active participation that made CIMEC a success.

“We have listened with great interest to the various presentations and we take note of all the recommendations made during the CIMEC-2024 discussions, which focused on the development of Cameroon's mining potential, the challenges to be met in financial terms and the crucial issue of the industrialisation of this very important sector for the structural transition of our economy,” Prof Fuh mentioned.

He reiterated the need for all to shoulder the responsibility of implementing the recommendations during the different deliberations as well as investing to develop the mining sector.

The minister equally announced that government and the European Union have had an understanding to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to develop Cameroon's national mining strategy.

He also insisted that through CIMEC, Cameroon has positioned itself as the centre for financial negotiation for mining projects in Africa.
