Afriland First Bank best bank in Cameroon - Report.

Premium indigenous bank, Afriland First Bank, has maintained its leadership position as the best commercial bank in Cameroon. 

The renewed leadership position of the financial house is according to a data, which the “eCERBER” platform of the Central African Banking Commission, COBAC, made public recently.



According to the institution, Afriland First Bank remains the king of the Cameroon banking sector. 

The bank is said to be holder of loans amounting to 1.241 billion FCFA of the 5,404.2 billion FCFA which banks in Cameroon granted in 2023.

The platform is said to have indicated that Afriland First Bank is followed by Société Générale and SCB. 

The three banks, the report indicate, hold a combined loan portfolio of 2,571 billion FCFA, out of 5,404.2 billion FCFA outstanding bank loans in Cameroon last year.

The Célestin Guela Simo-led Afriland First Bank has remained an outstanding bank in terms of financing Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, SMEs.

 Société Générale Cameroun and the Société Commerciale de Cameroun, SCB, a subsidiary of the Attijariwafa group, have lower loans portfolios on the 2nd and 3rd positions as per the recent data.

Société Générale Cameroun on second position has outstanding loans of 789 billion FCFA. SCB on its part holds 541 billion FCFA of the loan market. 

The three banks have been dominating the banking sector in the last couple of years.

In 2022, the three banks held a combine 2,571 billion FCFA, which was more than half all loans granted by commercial banks that year.

Fourth in the ranking is the International Bank of Cameroon for Savings and Credit, BICEC. The same data shows that the bank injected 465 billion FCFA into the economy through loans.

The fifth bank, Commercial Bank of Cameroon, CBC, for its part, granted loans worth 455.6 billion FCFA, within the same period.

Banque Atlantique Cameroun is ranked 6th, with an outstanding amount of 433.9 billion FCFA. It is followed by BGFI Bank Cameroon on 7th position with 430.4 billion FCFA and CCA-Bank, 8th with 283.2 billion FCFA francs.

Meanwhile, the United Bank of Africa, UBA Cameroon, Ecobank Cameroon and National Financial Credit, NFC Bank are ranked 9th, 10th and 11th with outstanding credits of 247 billion FCFA, 204.8 billion FCFA and 86.6 billion FCFA respectively.

CitiBank is on the 12th spot with an outstanding credit of 84.3 billion FCFA; Standard Chartered Bank Cameroon is 13th with a loan portfolio of 63.1 billion FCFA. On the 14th spot is Bange Bank Cameroon, with a loan package of   26 .7 billion FCFA francs.

Union Bank Cameroon comes 15th with 21 billion FCFA, while the Bank for Small and Medium Enterprises, Bc-PME, is on the 16th position, having granted loans worth 17.2 billion in 2023. Access Bank Cameroon PLC is 17th with 11.4 billion FCFA.

In general, the eCERBER platform reports a 15% increase in outstanding bank loans in 2023, compared to the 4,348 billion FCFA in 2022.
