Minister, senior MINADER officials, delegation of OCP Africa immortalise event

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, MINADER, has signed a new partnership agreement with Morocco-based company and worldwide leader in phosphate and derivatives, OCP Africa.

The agreement signed Wednesday seeks to boost production and guarantee food insecurity in the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe, signed the agreement on behalf of government, while the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of OCP Africa, Mohamed Anouar Jamali, penned the deal on behalf of his organistion.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minister Mbairobe said the partnership with OCP Africa, which he described as win-win, will give fresh impetus to the dynamism of bilateral cooperation between Cameroon and Morocco.

He disclosed that the agreement aims to build the capacity of “our staff in terms of the determination of the ability of soils, using good fertilizers in farms, and good practice in agriculture”.

The member of government further explained that the deal “will undoubtedly and significantly contribute to achieving the main objective of implementing Cameroon government policy in the agricultural sector”.

Minister Mbairobe expressed optimism that the agreement, shall beyond the shadow of doubt, boost agricultural production and fight against food insecurity.

He also disclosed that the partnership between MINADER and OCP shall also contribute to making “agricultural in Cameroon highly productive, sustainable and especially competitive”.

“We are proud that OCP took the commitment to assure 100 per cent the availability of fertilizers in our country. We think this is a very good partnership. We have done the mapping of the soil, we have done the use of fertilizer in the cultivation of cocoa and now they have set up a good formula of fertilizers for cereals and some crops in our country,” Minister Mbairobe said.

Speaking earlier, the CEO of OCP Africa, Mohamed Anouar Jamali, said they remain committed to support MINADER in a wide range of fields.

The CEO of OCP Africa, which operates in more than 35 countries, said their actions on the field shall benefit a maximum of farmers across the national territory.

He added that he is convinced that the partnership with MINADER will bring out innovative solutions to the plight of farmers.

OCP AFRICA, it should be said, was created in 2016 to contribute to the sustainable development of African agriculture.

They develop fertilizer solutions customized to local conditions and crop needs, and work with partners in many different African governments, non-profits and private enterprises to connect farmers to the agricultural services, knowledge and resources they need in order to prosper.

It is important to note that the partnership agreement between MINADER and OCP Africa has six major areas of interventions.

They include; supporting MINADER in defining a comprehensive agricultural policy, research and development cooperation, developing formulas adapted to the needs of Cameroonians, supply of fertilizers to farmers, disseminating good agricultural practices, securing outlets for agricultural production, developing local distribution.
