Bandjoun: Motaze applauds Koungki finance staff’s drive to attain revenue targets.

The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, has expressed appreciation for the efforts being made by officials of the Koungki Divisional Finance Sector to meet revenue targets set for the Ministry of Finance, MINFI, in the 2023 state budget.

The kudos were given when Motaze visited and inspected some structures of the Koungki Finance Sector in Bandjoun, Koungki Division of the West Region, on Tuesday August 8. This was on the last day of his working visit to the West Region.

Minister Motaze also commended his collaborators in the area for completing the renovation of the Finance building, which serves as the divisional headquarters of finance administration in Koungki Division as a whole and Bandjoun Subdivision in particular.

After inspecting the facility and looking through the financial records of the establishment, he told reporters that figures showed that the sector is on the right track and will likely meet the revenue targets set for the sector before the financial year runs out in December.

He stressed that the entire nation, but particularly the Head of State and other government departments expect so much from the Ministry of Finance.

Minister Motaze said meeting these expectations is not the responsibility of those who work in Yaounde alone, but also that of field offices and officials, to which the Koungki sector is one.

He added that after inspecting the renovated edifice, he discovered that staff were in need of basic work equipment.

Therefore, the Minister promised to see to it that they are provided with these, insisting that the ministry cannot assign and set targets for people to meet, then fail to empower them with what they need in order to carry out effective work.

After giving staff assurance that the head office in Yaounde will continue motivating and encouraging them to do their work well, the working visit moved to the main issue, that of sensitising and valourising the Tresor Pay digital platform.

Minister Motaze reminded his collaborators in Koungki that this instrument was launched the previous day in Bangou, and it was an opportunity for those working with the Ministry of Finance as a whole, including those in Bandjoun to also take advantage of the innovation in order to increase overall revenue mobilisation and effective collection of same for the state.

Practical application

Staff were drilled on how to mobilise and secure public revenue generated from property taxes. In which case, surveys and land activities were used as an illustration. Concerned officials were schooled on how to establish land titles; and make various entries into the land register using the new instrument.

They were also drilled on procedures to follow before issuing certificates, attesting to different entries in the land register. They took lessons on how to register or carry out examination of oppositions and costs recovery.

Still on property and land matters, staff were drilled on how to carry out topographical and cadastral work. Keeping records and accounting for proceeds from leases or disposals of the state’s private domain.

Recording and accounting for incomes from securities as well as income from the sale by auction or by mutual agreement of any real estate or mobile asset removed from the books of public accounts was also on the menu.

Not forgetting proceeds from assets that have been confiscated by the state; rents collected from government buildings, and deductions from rents paid by people who are housed in government buildings, among other financial preoccupations of the state.

Tresor Pay digital platform is a modern revenue management system that has come to stay, so every staff of the Ministry must strive to avail his or herself with its use, Minister Motaze reminded his collaborators in the area.
