Elite One: UMS Loum, FECAFOOT fight dirty.

Littoral region Elite One club, Union des Mouvements Sportifs popularly known as UMS of Loum and the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT are on a war path, following disagreements born out of alleged non-respect of financial engagements. The club had on Friday February 10, announced they are backing out of the MTN Elite Championship.

They based their decision on the fact that FECAFOOT has failed to respect its engagement of paying subvention to the club.

Despite the decision announcing they are quitting the league, the club played its match day 12 match against Stade Rernard of Melong on Sunday February 13, which they won 2-1.

However, their outing is said to have angered officials of the Transitional Council of Cameroon Professional Football, CTFP, created by FECAFOOT to manage the Elite One and Two championships.

In a release Monday February 13, CTFP Secretary General’s Blaise Mbida, stated that “the club [UMS of Loum]“responded with disgraceful remarks towards FECAFOOT and its leaders with a strong tendency to blackmail and threats,”

The transitional council notified the club that it had transmitted their utterance to the federal ethics committee for appropriate sanctions.

USM fires back

The two-time winners of the top tier championship in a statement after the release from the transitional council, maintained that, FECAFOOT owes them a whopping 62 million FCFA.

“I want to make you understand that you are incompetent to drag the president of our club to a jurisdictional body, because the membership to the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT,” a statement from UMS said.

“In addition to our rights (2021/2022) and 2022/2023), the present FECAFOOT administration owes us 62 million FCFA in terms of awards and unpaid subventions.”

The statement signed by USM Loum Secretary General further stated: “We have the impression that you are ignoring the fact that we are in a global village where we can denounce what is not right, especially after a long wait and promises are not respected,”.

“If you persist to address us such a correspondence again, we will be obliged to drag the matter to the law court because you are acting out of the status and regulations of FECAFOOT,” the statement concluded.

UMS currently leads group A of the Elite One Championship. They face Aigle Royal on Sunday during match day 13, at the Bamendzi Stadium.
