Sprinter, Eseme, to compete in inaugural Ultimate Championships.

The event designed for la crème de la crème of global athletics will bring together Olympic champions, world champions, Diamond League winners and the overall best-performing athletes of the season. The athlete will be pooled across 28 disciplines. 

World Athletics published the final entry list of athletes for the competition on Monday September 7 with Eseme enlisted as the lone Cameroonian on the lineup. The sprinter will compete in the men’s 100m category on Saturday September 12.

He will be going up against 15 other globally-dreaded sprinters. Amongst them are European sensation Larment Marcel Jacobs of Italy, the United States’ Kenneth Bednarek, reigning world champion Seville Oblique of Jamaica, Kayinsola Ajayi of Nigeria, Olympic gold medalist Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and Jeremiah Azu of Great Britain. 

Eseme is believed to have earned the invitation as one of the overall best-performing athletes of the season. This, pundits argue, is owing to the unquestionable performances that the reigning African champion has been registering since the season started. 

The Cameroonian has been nearly unbeaten since he launched his 2026 season earlier this year. The confirmation of the athlete’s inclusion on the entry list of the Ultimate Championships came barely two days after he ranked second in the final of the 2026 Diamond League, the most prestigious athletics league organized by World Athletics.

Eseme did his race in the final of the men’s 100m category of the competition in 9.93 seconds. The short-distance runner placed just behind world champion Seville Oblique who won the gold medal in the series in 9.90 seconds. 

A month before the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium, last weekend, the sprinter set a new personal and Cameroon national record in Glasgow in Scotland in July when he won gold in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He won the final race of the competition in 9.83 seconds. 

The 9.83 seconds has the Cameroonian heading to the World Athletics Ultimate Championships as the second-fastest athlete in the men’s 100m category, just behind Seville Oblique’s 9.82 seconds. 

Following the inclusion of the athlete on the entry list for the Ultimate Championships, the Cameroon Athletics Federation, FECATHLETICS described his invitation as the fruit of hard work.  

The federation promised to stand behind the athlete when he competes in the championship where the champion in each of the individual categories will bag home a sum of 150,000 USDs while the silver medalists and bronze medalists receive 75,000 and 40,000 each.

The men’s 100m race of the competition will be held on Saturday September 12. It will begin with the semifinals at 6:21p.m. Cameroon time. The final will be held at 7:49p.m. Cameroon time on the same day.
