CAF Women’s Champions League: Lekie Filles steps up preparations for qualifiers.

The Cameroonian flagbearers have been working hard in daily training sessions at the Yaounde Military Stadium ahead of the qualifiers kicking off this weekend.

Coach Stephane Ndzana's side are focusing on tactics, speed, endurance, passing and finishing. With home support behind them, Lekie FF who qualified as winners of the 2025 Guinness Super League, the country’s women’s top tier league, are aiming to secure Cameroon's first-ever qualification for the CAF Women's Champions League.

It is a chance for redemption for Lekie FF who had failed to become the first Cameroonian club to qualify for the continent’s most celebrated women’s club competition in 2024. 

They finished two points behind the women’s team of Tout Puissant, TP Mazembe, who progressed to the finals for the second time as UNIFFAC representative. 

No Cameroonian club has featured at the annual women’s elite inter-club competition. AS Awa in 2022 and also in 2023, and Louves Minproff during the inaugural edition of the qualifiers in 2021 suffered the same fate.

Last year, FC Ebolowa came so close to ending the jinx but ultimately failed. They finished as runners-up in the qualifiers after losing to 15 Agosto of Equatorial Guinea in the final game. 

The 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League UNIFFAC qualifiers took place in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, from September 17-19, 2025.

A draw would have been enough to see FC Ebolowa through as they sat at the top of the table with nine points from three games but they lost to second place 15 de Agosto in their final game of the qualifiers.

Before the damaging defeat FC Ebolowa had won all of their matches in the qualifiers. They defeated FA MSichana of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, 2-0 to get off to a winning start.

They also secured their second consecutive win in the competition with an impressive 5-1 win over TP Elect-Sport of Chad and defeated AC Colombe of Congo 2-0.  

Lekie FF is expected to begin their campaign on Saturday August 29 against FC 15 de Agosto of Equatorial Guinea. The encounter will take place at the Ahmadou Ahidjou Stadium in Yaounde at 1:00pm. 

It is important to mention that the road to the sixth edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League will begin in August, with the six zonal qualification tournaments set to determine the teams that will join defending champions AS FAR in the final tournament.

AS FAR have already secured their place in the final phase as reigning champions. They will be joined by the winners of the six zonal tournaments, as well as a team representing the host country.

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has not yet announced the host of the 2026 edition. The continent’s regulatory football body has also not made the date for the competition public.
