SYNAFOC slams FECAFOOT over new salary rates, registration fee.

The two-page document was signed by the Secretary General of SYNAFOC, Daniel Blaise Ngos.  

In the communique, SYNAFOC scribe expressed the union’s disagreement with FECAFOOT for fixing the new entry fees for competitions and the minimum wages for players and coaches for the 2026/2027 season.

The union frowned at the country’s governing football body for failing to consult SYNAFOC before taking the decision.

“SYNAFOC wishes to express, with the firmness that the gravity of the situation demands, its deep concern regarding these figures. A monthly minimum wage of seventy-five thousand CFA francs cannot be regarded as remuneration compatible with the dignity of a professional footballer’s status,” SYNAFOC said in the communique.

They added that: “At this level, a player is unable to meet even their most basic obligations and needs. This situation of economic precariousness, established by an official circular, not only constitutes an affront to the players’ circumstances but also undermines the integrity and credibility of national competitions.”

It should be recalled that FECAFOOT announced new mandatory minimum monthly salaries for players and coaches of the MTN Elite One, MTN Elite Two and Guinness Super League last week in a communique signed by the Secretary General of FECAFOOT, Isaac Noe Mandong.

According to the one-page document from the FECAFOOT scribe, MTN Elite One players must earn a minimum monthly salary of FCFA 200,000 for the 2026/2027 season.

The federation also fixed the minimum monthly salary for Elite One coaches at FCFA 250,000, while clubs participating in the top-flight championship will pay a registration fee of FCFA 1 million.

In MTN Elite Two, players will earn a minimum of FCFA 75,000 per month, with coaches receiving at least FCFA 150,000. Clubs in the division will pay a registration fee of FCFA 500,000.

For the Guinness Super League, the minimum monthly salary for players has also been set at FCFA 75,000, while the club registration fee stands at FCFA 250,000.

SYNAFOC recent outing further fuels the existing tensions between the union and FECAFOOT.  Both parties have been at loggerheads for some years now. 

In 2025, FECAFOOT sanctioned its top leadership with SYNAFOC president Geremi Njitap slammed with a five-year ban from all football-related activities and a 10 million FCFA fine from the FECAFOOT Ethics Commission. 

This was due to locker room dispute during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Earlier this year, SYNAFOC expressed concerns that the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, has turned a blind eye to the plight of players.

SYNAFOC scribe challenged the country’s governing football body to put in place control mechanisms that allows SYNAFOC to verify that players have actually been paid. He also blamed them for the lack of collaboration between the two bodies.
