NW SDF chair says community dialogue doesn’t meet party’s aspirations.

Fongu Cletus: SDF North West regional boss

The North West Regional Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, Fongu Cletus Tanwe, has said the community dialogue initiative launched by Prime Minister, head of Government, Dr Chief Joseph Dion Ngute, does not meet the opposition party’s aspirations.

Speaking to The Guardian Post on Tuesday, October 20, Fongu, who also serves as Mayor of Bamenda III Council, said the SDF had consistently called for sincere dialogue to resolve the crisis and address the suffering of the population in the two restive regions.

“The idea of the community dialogue does not meet the aspirations of the SDF because the party believes that any dialogue to resolve the armed conflict should be a sincere dialogue, without excluding anyone. We have to dialogue with our opponents, the separatists, unionists and federalists. The dialogue must be all-inclusive in order to come out with a workable solution,” Fongu said.

On the possible outcome of the initiative, the SDF official said community dialogue could address some problems but would not achieve the results needed to end the Anglophone armed conflict.

He also said government should consider a federal system of government, which he believes could help improve the situation.

Fongu further said he was not given the opportunity to speak during the launch of the community dialogue Initiative.

The SDF bigwig said he had sought the opportunity to address participants but was not included among the speakers selected by Mezam Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, Simon Emile Mooh.

“As the Regional Chairman of the party, I wanted to say something, but we were not given the opportunity. It was the SDO who appointed people to speak. Many others wanted to talk, but the opportunity was denied them,” Fongu explained.

Despite his concerns about the organisation of the launch, Fongu called on SDF supporters in the North West Region to remain calm, peaceful and vigilant.

He also urged party supporters to continue preparing for the upcoming elections and give the SDF an opportunity to bring change through the National Assembly and local councils. The community dialogue initiative was launched on Thursday, October 15, at the Bamenda Congress Hall.
