Kumba: Floods render 500 homeless, 22 hospitalised.

Neighbourhoods hard hit by floods included; Kumba Town, Malabo Quarter, Pulletin Quarter, and Nchako Street. It took the prompt response of officers of the 206th Firefighting Brigade in Kumba to rescue those who were in danger.

Officials said the 22 persons hospitalised at the Kumba Regional Hospital Annex are among 100 others who were trapped as water flooded their homes. Rescue operations across the city are said to have ended around 10:00p.m.

The Guardian Post gathered that among those rescued, one was bitten by a snake while three others were taken to safety from rooftops.

According to the First Deputy Mayor of the Kumba II Council, the level of flooding is the worst he has seen since he was born and bred in the metropolis.

Nasiru who is also the Imam of the Kumba Central Mosque said the volume of water that flooded neighbourhoods worsened because the streams overflowed their banks owing to rains in neigbouring villages.

As we went to press yesterday, the City Mayor of Kumba, Gregory Ntemeyok Mewanu had mobilised council staff and volunteers to clear blocked streets, river paths and gutters.

Across the City, life was yet to regain momentum Thursday as families were busy sunning soaked and damaged household items. Chairs, mattresses, blankets, dresses mixed in sludge was also another common site in most flooded vicinities. 

To note that the situation of Kumba coincided with the landslide and flood in Limbe Wednesday that claimed the lives of three women among them one who was pregnant.

In a release Wednesday, the City Mayor of Limbe, Dr Paul Efome Ngale, identified those who died in the Mbende Quarter incident to be: Fanny Duh, 14; Meh Blessing Duh 25; and Epulie Melanie, 26.  The same release indicated that Meh is the pregnant woman who died in the incident.
