Kumba: Dr Mukwelle Nguba inter-quarter tourney underway in Mambanda.

The opening ceremony unfolded in the presence of the Assistant Divisional Officer of Kumba III, the Mayor and councilors of Kumba III Council and a cross section of the population.

To the donor, the purpose of the competition is to foster peace amongst the young people of the area.

While thanking the population of Kumba III for their massive turnout and support, the Mayor insisted that this year’s edition was aims at preparing the minds of the population ahead of future elections in the country.

The British trained pharmacist explained that “We're trying our best to keep the youth busy during this holiday period… We wish that they shun vices which are not associated with responsible citizens like drug abuse, promiscuity and violence”.

The Mayor has thanked councilors of Kumba III for gracing the competition before noting that the fruitful collaboration is what makes the council stronger.

Speaking earlier, the president of the organizing committee, Mayor Songo Jonas Ndiba, said he was elated to lead a team of fine minds to “organise this competition in the benefits of the young people”.

Jonas Songo who doubles as the first deputy Mayor of Kumba III Municipality disclosed that, at the end of the competition, winners will bag home lofty prizes.

“This is just a start and this competition will run throughout the month of August…it will be played on Wednesdays and Sundays in Mambanda and at the GTHS school field” he said noting that “The population are encouraged to come around during matches to support their teams”.

The winner of the competition is expected to bag home the sum of 500,000 FCFA up from 300, 000FCFA.

The runner up will bag home 250,000 FCFA up from 200,000FCFA.

Other participating teams will receive 10, 000FCFA as compensation for taking part in the competition.
