Taking services closest to members: Ntarinkon credit union inaugurates 5th Douala branch.

Newly inaugurated Bonamoussadi branch in Douala

Leading microfinance institution, Ntarinkon Cooperative Credit Union, NtaCCUL, has inaugurated its 5th branch in the economic capital, Douala. The branch in Bonamoussadi, Douala V Subdivision, Wouri Division of the Littoral Region, was inaugurated during a ceremony on Saturday, July 4.

The Bonamoussadi branch adds to four other branches that NtaCCUL already has in Douala viz; Bonaberi, Akwa Douche, Ndokoti and Ndobo.

On a national scale, the Bonamoussadi branch raises the network of NtaCCUL’s branches nationwide to 18.

This makes NtaCCUL the microfinance institution with the highest number of branches in Cameroon and the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, CEMAC, sub region.

The Bonamoussadi branch, officials said, will also serve as the Littoral Regional Office of NtaCCUL. Saturday’s ceremony brought together several stakeholders including the population of Bonamoussadi.

NtaCCUL Cameroon’s pride

Speaking on behalf of the administration and government, the assistant Divisional Officer, DO, of Douala V Subdivision, Onguene Vincent Ado, saluted NtaCCUL as a citizen institution of unique standing.

Onguene said Ntarinkon Credit Union has distinguished itself in all facets of national life and beyond, making it a standout microfinance institution that has become the pride of the nation.

The administrator praised NtaCCUL for respecting the laws of the country especially guidelines set by the Ministry of Finance, MINFI, the Central African Banking Commission, COBAC, and other relevant institutions overseeing the functioning of the microfinance sector.

The assistant DO said across the decades, NtaCCUL has become a major pillar in fighting poverty, financing economic development, financial inclusion and building a better Cameroon.

Onguene saluted the competence of the management of NtaCCUL, insisting that the credit union’s rapid growth and expansion is no surprise.

Going by the civil administrator, NtaCCUL also plays an important role in easing access to certain services such as having at least 5,000 civil servants receiving their salaries through the microfinance.

He also singled out the microfinance institution for its payment of six percent interest on savings.

Onguene stated that it is inspiring that such which remains the highest in the country has been on since 2020 and members of NtaCCUL continue to enjoy the fruits.

Onguene also congratulated NtaCCUL for upholding quality services that have earned it several distinctions across decades.

Taking services closest to members

Addressing reporters, the President of the Board of Directors of NtaCCUL, Barrister Akuma Miranda Bih, said the Bonamoussadi branch is in line with the credit union’s drive of taking services closest to its members.

“…Douala is the economic hub of Cameroon and Bonamoussadi is fast growing and our members too. One of our objectives is to meet our members where they are. We have other branches in Douala,” the President of the Board noted, remarking that “…it was just time enough for us to reach the members that we have this way and also to get new members”.

Barrister Akuma stated that the new branch will help the population gain time especially given the distance spent to go and carry out financial transactions in town.

Why NtaCCUL remains the best in CEMAC

On the secret behind NtaCCUL’s unrivalled growth and expansion, the President of the Board noted that, “…we are the first not only in the country but in the CEMAC zone. The secret of our growth is about trust. It is about reliability, sustainability and it is about availability of cash. Liquidity that is readily available for our members each time they want it”.

She disclosed that in the last 10 years, NtaCCUL has bagged 38 national and international distinctions for its innovations and pioneering extensive change in the microfinance sector across CEMAC.

Pumped in FCFA 52B to finance economy

The President of the Board of Directors disclosed that as part of NtaCCUL’s drive to power economic growth, the institution pumped in 52 billion FCFA in 2025 alone to support businesses.

He explained that beyond granting such loans, NtaCCUL has remained the leader of digitalization with most of its services now rendered through the use of technology.

“…most interesting is the fact that we have gone digital…especially with the institution of the GMAC card which is one service that many financial institutions are not yet having,” Barrister Akuma noted, assuring the public that NtaCCUL “…is progressing every day to meet the needs of our members”.

Figures that speak

On growth, the President of the NtaCCUL Board said: “Our membership increased from 104,107 members in 2024 to 117,213 in 2025, giving an increase of 13,106 members in a year, with an increase rate of 13%”.

Savings, she said, rose “from 56 billion FCFA to 66 billion FCFA, giving a 10 billion FCFA increase in a year, and loans granted in 2025 amounted to 52 billion FCFA”.

She added that: “Our total assets also increased from 77 billion FCFA in 2024 to 91 billion FCFA in 2025, with an increase rate of 21%”.

Responding to increasing popular demand

The General Manager of NtaCCUL, Ade Muma Divine, on his part said: “We have come to extend our services to the people of this community”.

Ntarinkon Credit Union, he reiterated, is the biggest in CEMAC and the best managed in the same sub region. He also stated that, recently, NtaCCUL was classified among the 10 biggest and best managed credit unions in Africa.

Beyond the advanced digital services of NtaCCUL, Ade Muma noted that, it is imperative to continue taking services to where the population is.

“…you know NtaCCUL has been paying interest rate of 6% on savings and everybody has been calling us that they want to benefit… that is why we are now present in Bonamoussadi,” Ade Muma noted.

What next after Bonamoussadi?

With the Bonamousadi branch now operational, the GM stated that NtaCCUL management is now “…thinking of going to Dschang and we are also thinking of going to the Far North Region…”.

The planned expansions, he noted, is “…so that we can cover the whole of Cameroon. You know Ntarinkon Credit Union is like a church and in the church when you preach the Gospel, people will want to listen.

Asked if NtaCCUL is thinking of transitioning into a bank, Ade Muma retorted that “becoming a bank is just a matter of the Central African Banking Commission recognizing you but the services will not change because we are there for the poor. You know NtaCCUL is like a train and everybody wants to be inside. Once the credit union grows, everybody also grows”.

He saluted the impetus Barrister Akuma has brought onboard, as a woman, stating that, as a mother, her presence has also had a positive effect on NtaCCUL’s performance.
