At 12th General Assembly in Yaounde: CABTAL evaluates ground covered, unveils new ambitious roadmap.

Members of the Cameroon Association of Bible Translation and Literacy, CABTAL, have evaluated the road covered during the 2019/2022 strategic plan and unveiled other ambitious projects envisaged for the next two years.

This was the focus of CABTAL’s 12th General Assembly meeting which held in Yaounde, Saturday, February 4.

Among other ambitious projects, the officials announced the launch of CABTAL Printing Press.

According to CABTAL, plans have been made to ensure a successful realisation of the project expected to be in its final phase in the months ahead.

The facility to be mounted on the association’s new 52 million FCFA-worth landed property, the group stated, will facilitate their activities which are hugely linked with the production of documented works in the field of bible translation and other God-related literacy promotion works.

Several other projects envisaged

Other major activities outlined in CABTAL’s envisaged two-year program include the translation of the Bible in 17 new languages and the launching of new partnerships to boast the association’s activities.

The association will also engage with 50 new churches, 100 new prayer partners and equally train at least 200 listening facilitators in 20 communities. At least 100 listening groups will also be put in place as part of the two-year program.

“As advisers, we are here to accompany the organisation in overcoming its challenges. We are aware of all the challenges and have started working and will continue supporting the structure because the members need support. With the Director General, we will engage several other partners who will facilitate the organ’s actions in overcoming these challenges,” said the Board Chair, Rev Alain Clement Sokeng.

He said several capacity building workshops and seminars will also be organised to train officials on six trauma-healing exercises and other activities.

The projects, CABTAL officials said, will be accompanied by the dynamisation of the newly initiated project, the “Little Drops”, aimed at enabling Christians to raise funds through voluntary contributions ranging from 200 FCFA.

Ground covered in just ended strategic plan evaluated

The General Assembly was also used to evaluate the works done through the two-year 2019/2022 strategic plan.

The officials cited achievements including the increase in its number of translated testaments from 24 to 37, mobilization of Christians and holding of several prayer gatherings to ensure Christians have access to Bible preaching as well as preaching via the weekly bulletin distributed via social media handles including messaging app, WhatsApp.

The Bible translation vision was also presented to 525 churches in various communities with more than 21 workshops organised on gospel and culture with 1,442 persons trained in the process.

“We have made progress in terms of our vision. Our vision is to see individuals and communities transformed by God’s words in their languages. We have moved from 24 new testaments that we had more than two years ago to 37 testaments,” the General Director, Keyeh Emmanuel Lufang said.

“We have more than ten thousand people added to the number of people who are able to read and write their languages, thanks to our activities. We have talked about 54 languages in which we are actively involved in,” he continued.

The officials disclosed that CABTAL equally trained 140 story tellers and received major financial backing amounting to 23.6 million FCFA through donors in the last two years.

The group also received a landed property evaluated at more than 52 million FCFA where the Printing Press will be planted.

The Director General, Keyeh Emmanuel Lufang disclosed that the achievements are testimonies of the over 35-year-old association’s full dedication in realising its vision of fully preaching God’s word by reaching communities.

“We noticed that the organisation CABTAL is progressing and fulfilling its vision as a movement of churches and communities, serving churches and communities and facilitating development through the word of God, the translation of the word of God in the mother tongues,” he said.

The officials disclosed that the achievements were recorded despite multitude challenges including those encountered in regions under socio-political crisis.

CABTAL, it should be said, has been operating in Cameroon for over 35 years with activities positively impacting lives across the board.
