Gunmen kill two students, injure medical doctor in Tubah.

The late Khan Genesis, one of victims of the attack

Two students of the University of Bamenda, Uba, lost their lives on Monday, June 8, 2026, in an incident linked to ongoing insecurity in Tubah Subdivision, Mezam Division of the North West Region.

The victims, identified as Mireile Kunyi and Khan Genesis, were shot dead in Bambui, when armed men, believed to be Amba fighters, opened fire on the commercial motorcycle on which they were travelling.

The attack, which occurred near the area known as C-bend, ended the lives of Mireile Kunyi and Khan Genesis.

Khan Genesis, identified as a native of Pinyin, graduated from the University of Bamenda in 2025, from the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC.

Friends and relatives say he had taken up commercial motorbike riding as he was pursuing another certificate in the same institution.

Residents said the attack may have followed a failed kidnapping attempt earlier in the day in Bambui, where an individual reportedly escaped from the armed separatist fighters.

In a separate incident, also on Monday, a health personnel, identified as Nyombov Clinton, sustained serious gunshot wounds after being attacked by suspected separatist fighters in Bambui.

Sources said the health worker was returning from a sporting activity when he was confronted by the assailants. He reportedly sought refuge at a nearby health facility, but the gunmen pursued and opened fire on him.

Nyombov was shot in both legs multiple times, eyewitness said.

He was later transferred to the Bamenda Regional Hospital for specialised treatment. Sources say he remains in critical condition.

The recent incidents have again raised concerns over the security situation in parts of the North West Region, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of violence, associated with the armed conflict in the Region.

As at press time, security forces and authorities had not issued an official statement on the attacks.

Meanwhile no group has claimed responsibility for the incidents.
