Cameroon steps up training ahead of African Sambo Championships.

According to the Cameroon Sambo Federation, FECASAMBO, some 20 selected male and female athletes will represent Cameroon at the African Sambo Championship.

The country’s flagbearers are currently in their final stretch of preparation in an internal camp in Yaoundé. They were previously part of an external training camp which witnessed the participation of several athletes.

During the three-day continental tournament, Cameroonian Sambo athletes will compete for medals in Sambo Sport and Combat Sambo.

The President of the Cameroon Sambo Federation, FECASAMBO, Maitre Francois Mbassi, during one of his visits to the camp encouraged the team and reminded them of the task ahead.

Maitre Mbassi, who said medals will be up for grabs in 27 categories, told the Sambo Lions and Lionesses that they will be going to Egypt with the ambition of maintaining Cameroon’s top position on the continent. He acknowledged that it is a difficult but possible task.

Among the athletes expected to represent Cameroon are former World Champions, silver and bronze medallists. It is important to note that for now, Cameroon is the only African country that has produced world champions in Sambo. They are Nji Mouluh Seidou and Maxwell Njantou Nana.

Cameroon Sambo team is expected to leave the country today for the 20th African Sambo Championships. 

The competition will take place at the Cairo International Stadium. The weigh-in is expected to take place on June 12 at the Hotel Tolip Galaa and June 13 at the Cairo International Stadium on June 13. According to the official program, the opening ceremony will take place on Saturday June 13.
