Kuere Rodrigue wins stage one of Cameroon Int’l Cycling Tour.

He completed the race just ahead of Rwanda’s Masengesho Vainquer of the Benediction Banafrica Team and Charrois Leo of Germany’s Team Embrace the World.

Rwanda’s Mugisha Moise of Benediction Banafrica Team who won the 2022 edition of the competition, ranked fourth after doing the race in three hours, one minute and 46 seconds. 

Three-time champion, Clovis Kamzong Abossolo of the SNH Velo Club ranked fifth in three hours, one minute and 59 seconds while defending title holder Mansouri Islam of the Algerian national team completed the event on the 18th position.

The North African covered the race in three hours, eight minute and 17 seconds. Kuere’s victory in the lap followed his brilliant performance in the competition. 

The 26-year-old mainly took control of the stage in the final 15kilometers of the stage where he was closely challenged by the Rwandan Masengesho and Germany’s Charrois. Before Kuere grabbed the command baton, Team Cameroon was led in the race by SNH’s Ngueguim Steve Auriol.

Ngueguim was finally overpowered as the lead contenders began negotiating the final 30kms of the stage. This, in what observers believed might have been a pre-race gameplan by Team Cameroon to attack the final 15kms.

Ngueguim completed the race on the nineth position, two minutes and 19 seconds behind the top-three cyclists. He was the fourth Cameroonian on the standing behind Tientcheu Michel Boris of the Cameroon National Cycling Team who ranked seventh after rounding up the exercise one minute and 59 seconds behind the leaders. 

Cameroon is battling to reclaim the winner’s trophy of the Cameroon International Tour competition after losing the prestigious distinction to Algeria’s Mansouri Islam last year. 

The race continues this Thursday with the second stage set to hold in the North Region. The 100.3km-long series will be held from Figuil to the regional capital Garoua.
