In National Day message: NW Regional Assembly president urges population to foster peace, unity.

He made the call yesterday on the occasion of the 54th edition of the National Day, commemorated under the theme: "National unity: Backbone of our defence system, bedrock of Cameroon’s development”. 

In the message, Prof Angwafo III said this year’s theme is a strong reminder that unity remains the foundation of the country’s collective strength, national security, sustainable development and salvation. 

He added that a united people form the first line of defence of any nation and create the conditions necessary for peace, stability and progress. 

“For the North West Region, this message holds particular significance. Our region is going through challenging times that test our resolve, resilience and social cohesion. Yet, through courage, determination, dialogue and collective enterprise, our people have continued to demonstrate an unwavering resolve to peace building, recovery and resilience on the path to prosperity,” Prof Angwafo III said.  

He disclosed that the North West Regional Assembly has as its purpose to inspire and build lives in resilient communities. 

“It remains guided by core values of peace, justice, unity, hard work and solidarity, values which continue to inspire and inform our vision, strategies, missions, objectives, actions and activities for regional transformation,” he said. 

Prof Angwafo III said peace remains indispensable for security and development. “Without peace, communities cannot thrive. Ultimately destitution, hunger, misery and poverty redeem any efforts towards development,” he noted. 

He also added that justice strengthens trust, promotes democracy, fairness and reinforces social harmony within our communities, highlighting that unity remains the greatest strength and the driving force behind our collective aspirations and enterprise. 

He said hard work continues to be the engine of growth, innovation and community advancement. With solidarity, he remidned the population that progress depends on standing together and supporting one another solidly in times of challenge and or opportunity. 

He also paid tribute to traditional rulers, administrative authorities, security and defence forces, development partners, civil society organisations, notably women and youth groups, all citizens, whose contributions continue to sustain peace, security and development in the North West Region.

Prof Angwafo III said the defense of the region and nation cannot solely be the responsibility of the security forces.  

“It is indeed strengthened by citizens who promote peaceful coexistence, reject division, encourage dialogue, inform people and actively participate in safeguarding our collective survival today and in the future,” he said. 

He called on all sons and daughters of the North West Region to continue to support initiatives that foster peace, strengthen social cohesion and advance regional development. 

“Let us collectively invest our energy, genius and talent in education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, youth empowerment and community driven development initiatives,” he said. 

He urged youth to remain the hope, the present and future of our region, noting that their creativity, patriotism and commitment are the bedrock for building a stronger North West and a more prosperous Cameroon”. 

“As we celebrate this National Day, may we renew our commitment to national unity, reinforce our support for peace and security, and remain guided by the values of peace, justice, unity, hard work and solidarity in building the North West Region and the beloved Cameroon of our dreams,” Prof Angwafo III said.
