The former Director General of the Cameroon Shipyard and Industrial Engineering Company, known simply as Chantier Naval, Antoine Bikoro Alo'o, has died, a family source confirmed Sunday.

Antoine Bikoro who replaced the now jailed Zacchaeus Forjindam as Chantier Naval boss, gave up the ghost on Sunday, April 19, at the Yaounde General Hospital.

His demise first circulated on social media as rumours before it was confirmed by family sources. It is not immediately known what killed the former Chantier Naval boss but we gathered that he had been battling with an unknown illness for months.

His death came two months after the current Director General of Chantier Naval, Roland Maxime Aka’a Ndi’I, died in office.

Antoine Bikoro Alo’o, a senior finance inspector and businessman, occupied several public offices during active days.

A native of the Ntem Valley Division of the South Region, Antoine Bikoro Alo’o was recruited in 1985 as a Finance Director at the National Hydrocarbons Corporation, SNH.

Within the SNH, Antoine Bikoro Alo’o held successive positions as service head, head of the accounting department, deputy Director and then Finance Director until 2007.

He subsequently became Director of Budget and Control at the same company. In January 2008, he was appointed Deputy Director General of the Cameroon Shipyard and Industrial Engineering company, Chantier Naval.

He held the Deputy Director General position, with responsibility for financial and accounting management. He later subsequently served as Director General of the company following the sacking of Zaccheus Forjiimdam.

The late Antoine Bikoro sat on the boards of several Cameroonian companies, including BICEC, Tradex, Chanas Assurances and International Business Corporation.

In 2014, he was appointed Director General of International Business Corporation, a subsidiary of SNH specialised in the management of oil assets.

In political career, Antoine Bikoro Alo’o served as Mayor of Kye-Ossi and later as Member of Parliament, MP, for the Ntem Valley.

A frontline member of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, he was presented by the party’s central committee as candidate of choice for the post of President of the South Regional Council though he was defeated in the race. He was defeated by Eric Gervais Ndo, who won by 66 votes to 22.
