Ngaoundere university: Decentralisation minister inaugurates FEICOM-built student hostel.

Inaugurated FEICOM-built students´ hostel

The Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam, has inaugurated a modern hostel constructed by the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, in the University of Ngaoundere, chief town of the Adamawa Region.

The modern facility was inaugurated on April 13. This was on the sidelines of the minister’s week-long working visit to the Adamawa Region.

The Director General of FEICOM, Philippe Camille Akoa, said the growing need for decent accommodation to meet the demands of the ever-increasing student population of the University of Ngaoundere, prompted the Board of Directors of FEICOM to approve implementation of the project.

He specified that the new and modern hostel is located in the Dang neighbourhood, in the Ngaoundere III Subdivision.

Christened Mini-Cite Dang, Akoa reiterated that it is designed to meet the growing needs of student housing. This, he said, is why the modern infrastructure is meant to provide an optimal setting for living and studying.

He went on to announce that the structure is made up of 42 fully-equipped bedrooms, each with bathrooms and kitchens.

The facility also offers essential communal spaces, which include: a laundry, a workroom, a restaurant, an administrative office and a concierge.

The facilities, the Director General said, are meant to ensure students have improved living conditions, conducive to their academic and personal growth.

Beyond its educational role, the FEICOM boss said the structure would actively contribute to economic development of the locality by generating clean income for the Ngaoundere III Council area.

This, Akoa said, is in line with the sustainable development approach enshrined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 11, from where the National Development Strategy 2030, SND 30, also draws its inspiration.

During the same week-long working visit, the Minister also inaugurated a modern government primary school also constructed and equipped by FEICOM.

Akoa told journalists after the inauguration that the school is located in the Mbideng neighbourhood of Ngaoundere.

“Children at Mbideng Full Time Public Primary School in Ngaoundere now benefit from a learning environment fully built and equipped by FEICOM. This achievement embodies the institution’s willingness to contribute to national efforts to ensure equitable access to quality education, in line with Sustainable Development Goal number 4, SDG 4,” the elated DG announced.

He stressed that FEICOM, through its actions and personal commitment of the Director General, as a UNICEF Champion for the Rights of the Child, is working to provide young generations with the tools they need to succeed and build promising futures.
