The Urban and Rural Land Development Authority, MAETUR, has bid farewell to its late Deputy Director General, Mbong Michael Mbine.

This was over the weekend. Colleagues, family, and community members gathered to accompany the senior executive to his final resting place.

Mbong Michael Mbine passed away in Yaounde on January 29, 2026 following an illness. He had served at the helm of MAETUR since 2012, playing a central role in shaping land development policy and programmes nationwide.

MAETUR marked the occasion with a tribute on social media, describing the burial proceedings as a moment of profound reflection and collective mourning.

“We accompany with dignity and respect the progression towards the laying to rest of our deeply missed Deputy Director General. Each step taken is a tribute, each glance a mark of recognition, for a life of service, commitment and loyalty,” it stated on the social media post.

The institution further called for prayers for the repose of his soul, expressing that his legacy would endure in the memory of all who knew and worked alongside him.

Beyond his administrative contributions, Mbong Michael was a prominent figure within the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, CPDM. He notably featured in events marking President Paul Biya's 42nd anniversary in power.

Tributes poured in from across the country since his passing was announced. The death of the native of Nyan village in Bangem Subdivision, Kupe Muanenguba Division in the South West Region, has been described as a significant loss.

Actor and entertainer Cjay Brown, was among those who paid public tribute to the deceased. In a post on Facebook, he said the official had been widely respected for his public service and dedication to community development.

“I join the people of Kupe Muanenguba to mourn this great son of the soil,” Brown wrote.

MAETUR, in its farewell tribute, described the deceased as a quiet architect of noble ambitions, a man who bore the weight of tomorrow without fanfare, leaving behind a foundation visible in every urban project he helped shape.

“May the earth be gentle on you, loyal servant. Your name is already inscribed among the finest,” the authority concluded in its tribute.
