HRM Kenneth Khan Asobo III

After close to a decade since the former Fon “went missing”, the population of Pinyin clan in Santa Subdivision, Mezam Division of the North West Region, was in total celebration on Saturday, April 11, following the official enthronement of the new Paramount Fon, HRM Kenneth Khan Asobo III.

The event, described by many sons and daughters of the clan as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”, was chaired by the Senior Divisional Officer of Mezam, SDO, of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh.

Also present was the representative of the North West Governor, Ignatius Ekalle, who doubles as the Inspector General at the Governor’s Office. The Divisional Office, DO, of Santa Subdivision, Jules Roger Nkolo, and other officials also lived the event.

Before the official enthronement, HRM Asobo III was designated and presented to the administration in November 2025, by the Pinyin clan kingmakers.

Saturday’s ceremony marked an end to several weeks of conclave, where the Fon was under the custody of the traditional authorities.

Fon urged to foster peace, promote culture, & collaborate

In his speech, the SDO of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, charged the newly enthroned Fon to work hand-in-hand with the authorities, his community, and other Fons to make sure that peace reigns in the entire Pinyin clan.

HRM Asobo was also told to make sure he fosters peace and social cohesion with other neighbouring villages, especially in the West Region.

Other issues the Fon was enjoined to overcome include; conflicts, hate speech, and xenophobia. He was also urged ensure the creation of vigilante and peace groups in the entire clan.

“You should remain vigilant and pay attention by ensuring security and development in your Fondom. We remind you to work hard and maintain peace. I encourage you to revamp vigilante and peace groups in Pinyin,” the SDO said.

Quoting from sections 18, 20, and 21 of Decree no: 77 of 15 July 1977, organising chiefdoms in Cameroon, the Senior Divisional Officer reminded the newly enthroned Fon of his role in assisting the administration in guarding the people, and maintaining law and order.

“Pinyin is one and indivisible”

Commenting on recent developments where there have been talks and agitations from some Fons in Pinyin to proclaim their independence from the clan, the SDO noted that “Pinyin is one and indivisible,” cautioning those concerned to refrain from such acts.

“There are some third-class Fons here who are claiming their independence…Pinyin is one and indivisible. Your entity must remain one, and united…,” he said.

The Senior Administrator also urged the people of Pinyin to support the Fon. He reminded the population, especially elite, that this is the moment for them to rally behind the Fon for the development of Pinyin and for everlasting peace to return to the land.

Rare opportunity for Pinyin indigenes

Amongst the thousands who turned out to celebrate and to witness the event were sons and daughters of Pinyin who said it was one of the greatest moments of their lives.

According to Rev. Mekom Samuel, he will always remember the day in his life because not everyone, son or daughter of the land, is fortunate enough to witness such events, considering that they happen only after several decades.

Mekom, who is an engineer and youth advocate, said he is ready to support the Fon, especially in the aspects of development, peace, and education.

“It’s one of the moments in history that we have lived to witness. We’re so happy as sons and daughters of Pinyin because we now have a shepherd to lead us in the right direction. We will work with the Fon to see that we work on so many projects in Pinyin,” Mekom said.

According to Muma Jude, the Station Manager of Hot Cocoa Radio, he will use his communication for development skills to make sure that he amplifies every development project in the Pinyin clan.

“I am full of joy because this is a lifetime event. Now that we have a leader, we’re sure that all the disputes in the clan will be easily resolved. I will gladly use my communication skills to help the Fon and the community,” Muma said.

Born in 1960, HRM Asobo III is a Bachelor's degree holder in Private Law. He has worked throughout his career as a journalist with the State broadcaster, Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV.

He takes over as the Paramount Fon of the Pinyin clan from Fon Victor Asobo II, who “went missing” many years ago. Asobo III will henceforth be at the helm of the throne, leading all six villages that make up the entire Pinyin clan.
