Ring Road project: Public works ministry hails BUNS for progress on Kumbo–Ndu stretch.

The Ministry of Public Works has hailed Cameroon’s leading indigenous civil engineering company, BUNS Construction, for the progress made on the 39km long Kumbo-Ndu stretch of the Ring Road project; despite security challenges.

In doing so, the ministry has also given the renowned construction company a nine-month extension to complete the project. It runs until December 25, 2026.

BUNS Construction, the ministry has said, is refocusing its efforts on drainage works on the stretch of the road.

The drainage works aim at maintaining the road surface, already completed in good condition, as the rainy season returns.

Granted due to the security situation affecting the execution of the works, the nine-month extension, which came into effect on March 25, 2026, is intended to allow for the completion of the remaining works.

The 60x60mm drainage channels are approximately 76% complete. According to information from the Ministry of Public Works, work on other drainage structures is also progressing significantly.

Masonry revetments, with over 1,700 m² has been completed, as well as rockfill, estimated at over 1,300 m³.

On a completely different front, the construction of retaining walls and the installation of gabions are continuing on certain critical sections of the road to reinforce the road platform.

The prefabrication of components, notably kerbs, gutters and paving slabs, are continuing to facilitate their installation on the sections to be filled.

Despite a few adjustments to the implementation of certain elements, work on installing gutters and ditches is also continuing on other fronts.

The Kumbo-Ndu stretch, it should be said, is part of the Ring Road Project, which spans approximately 357 kilometers. The project is a crucial economic and social artery linking six of the seven Divisions that make up the North West Region.

As part of government’s commitment to modernising road networks, the Kumbo-Ndu stretch of the Ring Road Project is bringing long-overdue relief to travelers and businesses alike.

BUNS Sarl, the company constructing the Kumbo-Ndu segment, has been carrying out works on the stretch with key focus on the use of quality and durable materials.

The sight of heavy machinery, coupled with rapid progress, have reignited hope among residents and road users, who have endured years of deplorable conditions.

Local traders, transporters, and farmers are optimistic about the economic ripple effect of the project.

“For years, we have struggled with impassable roads, especially during the rainy season. This tarring is not just about comfort; it’s about economic growth, safety, and access to markets,” said Augustine Mbunwe, a cocoa farmer in Ndu.

With the slogan: “Where a road passes, development follows,” expectations are high that the Ring Road upgrade will spur trade, tourism, and agricultural expansion in the North West Region.

As the asphalting process gains momentum, stakeholders eagerly anticipate the full realisation of the vital road network, which will redefine mobility and connectivity in the Region.

The Kumbo-Ndu road project, it should be said, is estimated at a total amount of 34,925,833, 271 FCFA. The Kumbo -Ndu road project falls in line with the country’s development plan, initiated by the government to improve the living condition of the population facing some challenges due to the socio-economic instability in the Region.

Once completed, the road will facilitate transportation of goods to other Regions, with the key objective being boosting the economic sector in the North West Region.
