Yango Cameroon announces plan to expand mobility services.

Yango Cameroon Country Manager briefing media

Global technology company, Yango, has announced plans to introduce new services beyond ride-hailing to deepen its presence in Cameroon and strengthen the country’s digital economy.

The announcement is the highpoint of a Press Breakfast officials of Yango organised in Yaounde on Wednesday, April 1.

According to the Country Manager of Yango Cameroon, Dr Clovis Pilla, beyond mobility, other products of the company already in operation in other markets will soon be introduced in Cameroon.

Dr Pilla stated that while the company currently offers ride services for passenger transport, it is exploring to add car rentals, navigation tools, and delivery services.

The Country Manager confirmed that delivery services will be added to its services this year in cities where Yango already operates viz; Yaounde, Douala and Bafoussam.

The expansion, Dr Pilla noted, could touch on food delivery, grocery services, e-commerce marketplaces, and fintech solutions.

“In some countries like Dubai, Yango is recognized more as an entertainment platform than a mobility service,” he noted, pointing to products such as streaming services, Artificial Intelligence, AI assistants, and smart devices already popular some markets.

Growing presence in Cameroon

The Country Manager said Yango has operated in Cameroon for four years, giving clients unique ride categories including Eco, Comfort, Comfort Plus, and the Moto service now only available in Douala.

Dr Pilla said plans are underway to expand the Moto service to the peripheries of Yaounde this year.

He said Yango runs on a partnership-driven business model, which distinguishes it from competitors such as Uber, Bolt, and Gozem.

Dr Pilla said instead of working directly with drivers, Yango collaborates with local transport companies that manage fleets and recruit drivers.

He revealed that the platform counts approximately 150 local partners in Cameroon. The partnership model, he said, fosters inclusivity by integrating local businesses into its operations and supporting the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Focus on safety, security

Addressing concerns around safety, the Yango Country Manager underscored its commitment to user and driver security through a combination of digital tools and strict onboarding procedures.

He said “before joining the platform, drivers must provide valid identification including matriculation number, and driver’s licenses, while vehicles undergo checks to ensure compliance with registration, insurance, and technical inspection requirements”.

Dr Pilla noted that the Yango app offers multiple safety features allowing users to verify their ride before pickup. This, he said, comes with a built-in safety first center providing quick access to assistance, including 24/7 technical support.

“With thousands of users relying on the platform daily, security is a top priority,” Dr Pilla stated, adding that users can contact support in real time during or after trips if any issues arise.

He added that: “on Yango we have 24/7 technical support, and we have a team that is dedicated to make sure that at any moment in time if anything inappropriate happens on the platform, you can get help”.

The Country Manager further added that if during the trip a user feels unsafe, he/she can press the emergency button and the app will automatically start recording everything that's happening in the car, and automatically transfers it to the technical support and the police.

Based on reports from clients about risky zones, the Country Manager said drivers are constantly updated about such areas. He further emphasized the importance of the feedback to ensure concerns of users are addressed immediately.

On safety, the Country Manager explained that Yango Cameroon carries out training and sensitization for drivers on yearly basis especially on first aid to deal with emergencies.

He insisted that if the envisaged expansion comes into place, the changes will reshape how urban residents access mobility, commerce, and technology-driven services across the country.
