UB drills students on strategic entrepreneurship.

Some students of the University of  Buea, UB, have  been schooled on the dynamics of strategic entrepreneurship to solve societal problems. This was during a training on ‘junior entrepreneurship’ organized by the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research, Cooperation and Relations with the Business World, Prof Kingsley Lyonga Ngange.



It was organised in collaboration with the Business Division of UB headed by Dr Stephen Ndode. The training focused on Artificial Intelligence, AI, and entrepreneurship, key performance indicators of entrepreneurship and characteristics of successful entrepreneurs in the contemporary business world.

Buea-based entrepreneur, Cletus Andouba Atali, was one of the resource persons. 

According to Prof Ngange, the training was to empower students to become job creators. He also said it was organised to align university education with the new university governance policy that focuses on entrepreneurship.

Prof Ngange stated that young people have a lot of skills embedded in them but lack avenues to put them into profitable ventures. 

The DVC noted that the training was to enable such students pitch their ideas and benefit guidance. Prof Ngange advised participants to use the knowledge gained to improve their lot event as students.

Meanwhile, the Head of Division for Business, Dr Stephen Ndode, expressed satisfaction with the level of curiosity and maturity demonstrated by participants. 

He lauded the massive turnout and advised participants to use the knowledge gained to create and sustain entrepreneurial ventures necessary to move the economy forward.

“Nowadays, many persons rely on government; but we want to take the matter a step ahead to cause our students to be creative, persistent and innovative” he said. 

Buea-based entrepreneur, Andouba Atali, expressed delight for having been given the privilege to share with participants. He expressed willingness to support young entrepreurs.

Atali praised the enthusiasm of participants, declaring that, “…with proper guidance to shape their hazy ideas, I can assert that they are Cameroon’s next generation of strategic entrepreneurs”.

One of the participants, Besong Jolly Rosavelt, of the Faculty of Science, told The Guardian Post that knowledge gained will be used to revive failed business ventures.

Besong promised to “…go back and try again, hoping to right all the wrongs”.

Atankeu Tchakoute Ange of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology said she intends to blend engineering. 

She declared that: “I attended this training so as to blend what I study with other facets of society like business and financial management”

Atankeu also said she learned every good entrepreneur must strive to solve societal problems, generate income.
