Elite One: Coton Sport thrash AS Fortuna for biggest win of the season.

Record 18-time MTN Elite One champions, Coton Sport of Garoua, has recorded the biggest win of the season so far and moved within touching distance to the top of the table.

The North Region football club moved within one point from the league leaders after a convincing 5-1 win over AS Fortuna.



This was during an advance matchday six fixture of the MTN Elite One. The game took place yesterday at the annex of the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Coton Sport of Garoua started the game knowing that a win will help them edge closer to the top of the table after a difficult start to the season and they achieved their objective in style.

It was an afternoon where plenty of boxes were ticked for Coton Sport as they ruthlessly dominated their rivals. They got to a bright start when Ella Rodrigue powered them in front on 14 minutes before Manguele Elong doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Assah Solomon tried to bring back AS Fortuna in the game when he pulled one back at the stroke of halftime but Coton Sport upped the intensity in the second half.

The boys of coach David Pagou three second half goals to inflict AS Fortuna their third defeat of the season and second loss in a row. The goals were scored by Avama, Moussa Limane and Dakana.  

It was the best performance of Coton Sport this season. The win helped Coton Sport to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season. They scored five goals, more than their tally since the start of the season which stands at four.

The rest of the matchday six game are scheduled to take place this weekend. PWD of Bamenda have a chance to reclaim the top seat when they face Unisport of Bafang. The Abakaw Boys have won their last four games. 

Elsewhere, Panthere Sportive of Nde welcome reigning champions Colombe Sportive of the Dja and Lobo while Dynamo of Douala entertains Canon Sportif of Yaounde.

In the other games, Aigle Royal of the Menoua takes on Stade Renard of Melong and Aigle Royal of the Moungo shall exchange football lessons with Victoria United of Limbe.
