At meeting in New York: Minister reaffirms commitment to implement people-centered initiatives.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irène Nguene, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to implement people- centered programmes in order to accelerate agenda 2030.



Minister Irène Nguene made the commitment during the 64th session of the Commission on Social Development, CSocD64.

The meeting held recently at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York, USA. The session was held under the theme: “Advancing social development and social justice through coordinated, equitable and inclusive policies”.

Emerging issues at the session centered around eradicating poverty and ensuring dignity through resilient care and support systems.

During the conference, Minister Irène Nguene presented progress on social development, highlighting major progress made in the area of social development in Cameroon.

She disclosed that the fight against poverty through social safety net projects, that benefitted many vulnerable persons and households through income generation opportunities, the promotion of employment and descent work for socially vulnerable persons and the promotion of social inclusion through the Unified Social Registry and the creation of the National Solidarity Fund in Cameroon.

She equally talked about the civil protection fund for management of disasters and humanitarian crisis, works with specific groups like persons living with disabilities and the systematic integration of gender approach in policies, programmes and projects in the country.

At the end of her presentation, she stated the country’s commitment to implementing people-centered programs in order to accelerate agenda 2030 and reduce the rate of poverty in the country.

Established on February 16, 1946, and renamed in 1966, the United Nations Commission for Social Development, CSocD, is a Commission within the United Nations Economic and Social Council, ECOSOC, whose main responsibility is to provide advice to the UN on social development issues. 

The Commission monitors progress in poverty reduction, social inclusion and the implementation of international development goals. 

It works to promote social integration for various groups, including older persons, persons with disabilities, youth and Indigenous Peoples, and advocates for full employment and decent work for everyone.
