MIDENO constructs, hands animal slaughter facility to Bamenda City Council.

Exchange of documents between MIDENO Director & city mayor

The availability of beef, mutton, goat meat, and chicken is expected to increase in the city of Bamenda in the days ahead.

This is thanks to a new animal slaughter facility, which has been handed over to the Bamenda City Council for management.

The slaughter facility for cattle and small ruminants is constructed and equipped on a surface area of 1752 square meters in the Bamenda III Subdivision.

The official handover of the required documents for the facility was conducted between the Director General of the North West Development Authority, MIDENO, Cletus Anye Matoyah, and the Mayor of the Bamenda City Council, Achobong Paul.

The event took place February 10, 2026. This was in the presence of their close collaborators.

The facility, consisting of a cattle and poultry slaughterhouse has been constructed by MIDENO through the Livestock and Fisheries Development Project, LIFIDEP, and jointly funded by the government of Cameroon and the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB.

The objective of the facility is to provide fresh meat, mutton, and good quality to the population.

This is expected to improve the socio-economic well-being of the population, and also accelerate the development of the livestock sector in the region.

The facilities are equipped with: water tanks and pumps, slaughter house with equipment and sanitary facilities, lairage, elevators, machines, and others.

Speaking during the event, Mayor Achobong revealed that in case of meat surplus, the council will explore ways to expand its market out of Bamenda, in order to better serve the population and generate revenue for the development of the city.

While expressing gratitude to the government through MIDENO, Mayor Achobong said the new facility will improve the system of meat in the city, because it comes with modern tools and equipment.

“We are grateful. It's an added value to the estate of the city council. We are grateful, and we want to put it into use. We want to improve on our system of slaughtering, and this is going to improve our system of meat distribution,” Mayor Achobong said.

On his part, the Director General of MIDENO, Cletus Anye Matoyah, hinted that it is high time the facility, which is one among numerous facilities constructed in the region through the Ministry of Livestock be put into use.

“So, we thought it wise that since this one is a little bit modern, we should put it at the level of the city council, which is at the disposal of the entire Bamenda population. So, the abattoir will serve the population of Barmenda, and you could see, or hear, the city mayor, in his statement, say that, since it’s modern, it could also serve the population of other regions of Cameroon,” the Director said.
