FAO recommits to back Cameroon’s agricultural transformation.

R-L: Minister Mbaïrobé in talks with Dr Querido during the meeting

The Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of Cameroon’s agricultural sector. The renewed commitment follows recent high-level talks between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbaïrobé, and the FAO Representative in Cameroon, Dr Antonio Luis Evora Ferreira Querido.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange New Year greetings and outline priorities for continued cooperation in the agricultural sector.

Speaking after the audience, the FAO Representative said discussions focused on strengthening collaboration aimed at transforming agriculture in Cameroon.

“I conveyed my best wishes to the Minister for the New Year, with the hope that 2026 will be a year of health, progress and development for the agricultural sector,” Dr Querido said, adding that the FAO remains committed to supporting government’s efforts.

According to the FAO official, the meeting also reviewed ongoing cooperation and identified key areas for future action.

“We had the opportunity to review our collaboration and discuss important aspects, including what we will do together to transform the agricultural sector, which has strong potential,” he stated.

He further noted that the FAO would continue to rely on close coordination with the Ministry to achieve set objectives.

The FAO, which operates in more than 130 countries worldwide, continues to support Cameroon in the fight against hunger, the improvement of nutrition, and the development of resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.

Dr Querido, who took up duties in Cameroon in April 2025, has consistently highlighted the importance of reinforcing national and local initiatives. The efforts aim to improve access to healthy food while increasing agricultural productivity in the face of growing climate-related and socio-economic challenges.
