South Region: Kribi II Council announces event to legalise ‘come we stay’ marriages.

The Mayor of the Kribi II Council in Ocean Division of the South Region, Noale Théorine Flavie épouse Ntoutoum, has announced the organisation of a free mass marriage ceremony to formalize the unions of persons cohabiting within municipality.

This is the content of a release the municipal authority signed on February 4. The mass marriage ceremony, the release detailed, will take place on Friday, March 6.

It explained that the move is part of activities to mark the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The municipal authority in the statement called on the public, particularly inhabitants of Kribi II municipality to take advantage of the opportunity and legalise their unions.

The collective marriage ceremony, the mayor stated, will be held in the council hall from 9:00a.m.

The initiative, she stated, aims at encouraging legal recognition of unions and promoting family stability within the municipality.

According to the mayor, by offering the service free of charge, the Council hopes to remove financial barriers that often prevent couples from officially registering their marriages.

Mayor Noale Théorine Flavie has invited all interested couples to register with the Civil Registry Office of the Council on any working day before the day of the event.

Some residents have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a socially responsible action that aligns with the spirit of International Women’s Day, which celebrates dignity, equality, and the protection of family rights.

For many couples, the programme represents a chance to legitimize their unions in a dignified public setting without the usual financial burden.
