Turkish Ambassador hails Kumba’s hospitality, pledges to support dev’t.

The Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Volkan Öskiper, has praised the hospitality of Kumba, economic capital of the South West Region, pledging his country’s support to further its development.



Ambassador Volkan made the pledge in Kumba on Tuesday, January 27. This was in the course of his maiden visit to the metropolis since taking up duties in Cameroon.

He was accompanied by the Programme Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, TIKA, Melih Çağatay Artunay; the President of Cameroon Turkish Friendship Group at the National Assembly, Hon Tabot Lawson Bakia; and the Honorary Consul of Turkiye to Cameroon, Senator Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko. 

While in Kumba, the Turkish diplomat visited the Divisional Officer Office, an orphanage, the Kumba Central Mosque and Lake Barombi. 

The Turkish Ambassador offered gifts including two cartons of Qurans to the Kumba Central Mosque and sanitary pads and dresses to the orphanage.

He also promised his country’s readiness to assist in the development of Kumba especially in the areas of health and tourism.

As part of the visit, the Turkish development agency laid the foundation stone for the construction of an ultramodern mother and child center at the Kumba Regional Hospital Annex.

Turkish officials stated that upon completion, the structure will be equipped by elite of Meme Division as part of efforts to enhance development.

Nfon Mukete IV expressed delight to have hosted the Ambassador in Kumba. The Nfon said the visit would pave the mayor for more development projects in his kingdom.

The Bafaw King also decorated Turkish diplomat and the Programme Coordinator of TIKA as friends of the Bafaw. The traditional ruler expressed the desire to have the Ambassador visit Kumba again.

Hon Tabot noted that the visit not only further cemented Turkiye-Cameroon ties but will also result in spinoffs that will improve the livelihood of the population of Kumba.

The MP also thanked the population for turning out in huge numbers to welcome the Ambassado and his delegation.
