Douala: Minister inspects public, private health facilities.

Dr Manaouda during tour in hospitals

The Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie, has carried out a field visit to several public and private healthcare facilities in the city of Douala.

The inspection tour which took place recently was aimed at assessing service delivery, verifying compliance with health standards, and identifying areas requiring urgent corrective action.

Minister Manaouda during his sojourn in Douala, visited Merveilles des Conquêtes Polyclinic, the Bonamoussadi District Medical Center, CMA, the Bangue Health District, and the Logbaba District Hospital.

At each stop, the minister held working sessions with medical and administrative officials.

During the sessions, he inquired about the general functioning of the institutions, the regularity of activities, and respect for regulations governing the practice of health professions.

Special attention was paid to human resources, equipment, and compliance with professional standards.

Dr Manaouda examined the profile and qualification of staff, their registration with professional councils, and their participation in continuing education programmes.

He also reviewed the organisation of services and the capacity of facilities to receive and manage patients efficiently.

At the Merveilles des Conquêtes Polyclinic, which has 28 beds and provides services in gynecology, pharmacy, general medicine, and laboratory diagnostics, the Medical Director reported an average of five deliveries per month.

The facility’s patient care procedures and internal organisation were presented to the Minister, who stressed the need for strict adherence to established norms and protocols.

The minister during the visit identified several irregularities in both public and private health facilities.

In response, Minister Manaouda instructed heads of health facilities to work under the close supervision of the Regional Delegate of Public Health for the Littoral Region.

The measure, he explained, is intended to strengthen oversight, improve service delivery and restore public confidence in the healthcare system.

At the Logbaba District Hospital, Dr Manaouda expressed concern over organisational and structural shortcomings affecting the care of hospitalised patients.

He called on the hospital management to urgently take corrective measures to enhance patient care and ensure better long-term functioning of the facility.

Through the on-the-ground assessment, the Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening local health governance, improving the performance of healthcare institutions and guaranteeing the population access to safe, high-quality medical services that meet current national standards.
