The emergency centre

The Emergency Centre was constructed with over 590 million FCFA state funds, disbursed to the North West Regional Assembly through its 2023 projects.

The modern facility comprises of the ground floor and the first floor. The ground floor includes reception, consultation room, pharmacy, imaging unit, the almoner, observation unit, theatre, and others.

The first floor include; the pediatric observation unit, resuscitation unit, obstetric emergency, laboratory, blood bank, conference hall, office, and call rooms.

Speaking after the inauguration ceremony, the Regional Hospital Director, Dr. Nsame Denis, thanked the Chairman of the hospital Board, Prof Fru Angwafo III, President of the North West Regional Assembly.

“The capacity of this emergency centre of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, has 30 beds, and when we talk of an emergency centre, is where you uplift critically sick people, and when they are stable, you send them to the ward. And we have medical emergencies, Surgical Emergencies, pediatric emergencies and obstetric emergencies,” Dr. Nsame said.

He also noted that the centre will go a long way to remedy the situation that the hospital was facing.

“We had a very rudimentary emergency unit that had only six beds, and we know we are in crisis for the past nine years now, where we receive a lot of trauma cases, road traffic accidents, landslides and all that,” he said.

“… imagine when somebody comes with a gunshot case, it needs critical care. And so, with this building now, I think we are going to do because it's a one stop shop. You have all the services, imaging, laboratory services and reanimation,” Dr. Nsame added.

On his part, the Governor of the North West, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, hailed the North West Regional Assembly for its commitment in realising projects that directly benefit and impact the population.

The Governor noted that the health of the population is priority, as the region is struggling to fully recover from the over nine-year armed conflict.

Speaking during the event, the President of the North West Regional Assembly, Prof Fru Angwafo III, said they give loyalty to the Head of State, President Paul Biya.

In an interview after the inauguration ceremony, former Prime Minister, Philemon Yang, noted that the centre is there to serve the entire population of the Region, and Cameroonians at large.

“Well, the Emergency Centre is a marvelous thing for the North West region. It makes the Regional Hospital, by far a greater hospital, because it means that we have a center like in the Yaounde Central Hospital. This is great for the region, and it will serve the whole region,” Yang said.

Donation of medical equipment, assistance

The event also featured the cutting of the ribbon on the newly inaugurated building, followed by the donation of medical supplies, gifted by President Paul Biya, and financial assistance to 48 distressed patients by the North West Regional Assembly.
