October 12 poll: M’mockmbie says President Biya remains best choice for Lebialem.

Cross section of mammoth crowd at campaign launch

Sons and daughters of M’mockmbie in Alou Subdivision, Lebialem Division of the South West Region have assured landslide victory for the flagbearer of the CPDM party, Paul Biya, in the October 12 presidential election.

They made the pledge during the launch of communal campaigns by CPDM Divisional Campaign Commission Chair, Minister Paul Tasong.

Huge crowd turned out for the political event. Clad in CPDM party colours, the population, through different speeches, traditional dances and parades by commercial motorbike riders, reassured party officials that the bond they have with President Biya is unbroken.

From farmers to market women, teachers to students, the people of Alou expressed their unwavering support for President Biya.

In his address during the campaign rally, Minister Tasong, in a mix of English and the local dialect, emphasised that “a Lebialem man is a man of gratitude”.

The member of government said it is on this score that Lebialem is standing firmly behind President Biya in the election as a sign of gratitude for always standing with the Division.

"President Paul Biya has always stood with Lebialem, even during the most difficult times,” Tasong declared, adding that: “Now, it is our turn to reaffirm our unwavering support to a leader who has never forgotten us”.

He used the event to count in synopsis; key development strides made under President Biya’s leadership within Lebialem.

Tasong cited infrastructural projects, youth empowerment initiatives, agricultural subsidies, and the ongoing reconstruction efforts in the region as proof of President Biya’s enduring commitment to the people of Alou and Lebialem in general.

Minister Tasong said despite the challenges posed by the crisis in the two English-speaking regions, President Biya has not turned his back on the people of Alou.

He said the Head of State has instead ensured government programmes reached even the remotest of areas, with emphasis on education, agriculture, and rural development.

Speeches from a cross-section of Lebialem political and traditional leaders also underscored the need for all and sundry to rally behind the Head of State for continuity in the development of the Division.

Senator Fon Lekunze, in his address, described President Biya as an emblematic figure of stability and wisdom. He called on all sons and daughters of Lebialem to rally behind the CPDM candidate.

“We are a people that do not bite the hand that feeds us,” Senator Fon Lekunze said, adding that: “President Paul Biya has planted the seeds of development in Lebialem. Let us give him the full mandate to continue the work he has started”.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for Lebialem, Hon Dr Ateawung Bernard Foju, highlighted President Biya’s consistent peacebuilding efforts and his vision for a united and prosperous Cameroon.

Taking the cue, the CPDM Section President for Lebialem II, HRH Chief Dr Fotsop Dominic Yimnai, lauded the President Biya’s inclusive approach to governance. He emphasised that “Alou is not an afterthought but an integral part of the national agenda”.

Other traditional rulers added their voices in calls for massive election of President Biya. They invoked ancestral blessings and publicly declared their allegiance to the CPDM and its leader.

Farm inputs donated to population

Another high point of the rally was the donation of farm inputs and distribution of other kits to the population by the campaign team.

Beneficiaries saluted the generosity of the party officials for making vital donations which they said will go a long way to boost yields.

“This is not just talk. This is what we call politics that touches the people,” a beneficiary remarked, adding that: “Minister Tasong and the CPDM have shown us that they are serious about changing lives”.

The massive turnout at the rally, organisers said, is a powerful sign that Lebialem is on the path to recovery.

“Lebialem is bouncing back,” Minister Tasong said, adding that: “…we will do so hand-in-hand with President Paul Biya, who has never stopped believing in us”.
