October 12 poll: UMS’ Kwemo vows to make education free.

The flagbearer of the Union of Socialist Movements, UMS party, Hon Pierre Kwemo, has stated that he will make education free if elected Head of State during next Sunday’s presidential election.

The UMS leader has also vowed to put in place strong mechanisms that will guarantee the effective management of natural resources to facilitate the financing of the free education project and other schemes that prioritise the needs of the Cameroonian people.

Hon Kwemo made the declaration in the West Region Monday. This was during the candidate’s tours in Foumban in the Noun Division and Bafoussam, the headquarters of the Mifi Division and the region’s chief town.

The rallies were the latest additions to the multiplying outings that the candidate has held over the last weeks as he continues his nationwide campaign tour that has already seen him making groundbreaking stops across the northern part of the country, the East, Littoral, Centre and other regions to woo voters.

Speaking during his outing in Malentouen in Foumban, Hon Kwemo told his supporters and sympathisers that by choosing the blue ballot and voting for him during the October 12 poll, they will be throwing their weight behind a figure who has the people at heart as a socialist.

The UMS flagbearer said if he is elected, he will introduce the free education project to enable Cameroonians to educate their children without hitches.

He said the education project will be at the centre of a mega scheme that will be notably guided and financed by the effective exploitation and management of the country’s natural resources, contrary to what he said has been occurring under the incumbent Paul Biya of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, party over the last four decades.

“We have natural resources and fertile lands that can be exploited to enable us live comfortably. But sometimes we instead prefer hardship that pushes us to a position where we find it difficult to even pay school fees for our children. With UMS, once I become Head of State, education will be free,” the candidate stated.

“When you look at the balance sheet of his (Biya) leadership in a country where we have gold, petrol and a generally sufficient natural resources, it is disappointing. We must do better,” he added.

The UMS candidate who served as mayor of Bafang Council for close to a decade before heading to the National Assembly, urged his supporters to never doubt his credentials, describing himself as the perfect man who has what it takes to deal with systems like the one that has been created by incumbent Biya.

“I have been an elected official for over 20 years. I have a mastery of elections. There are candidates who have never been elected before. I have made an evaluation. At the moment, Paul Biya and the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, are zero,” Hon Kwemo stated.

In Bafoussam, Hon Kwemo further touched on the management of state resources.

“…Cameroon is very rich. But the riches are not managed by good people. If you give me the opportunity to role this country, you will see the difference. We are saying enough is enough,” he stated.
