Osih boasts will give Biya run for his money.

Osih Joshua speaking at start of last Saturday’s NEC meeting

The candidate of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, for the October 12 presidential election, Hon Osih Joshua, has vowed he would give incumbent President Biya, a run for his money, come October 12, 2025.

Hon Osih who is also National Chairman of the SDF, was speaking in Yaounde last Saturday.

This was during a crucial National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting held behind closed doors.

The strategic get-together, which was extended to allies of the SDF, came exactly a month to the October 12 presidential election, in which the SDF will be participating alongside 11 other political parties, including the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, of President Biya.

Though not opened to the media, The Guardian Post gathered that issues discussed at last Saturday’s NEC meeting bordered around strategies to secure victory for the SDF at the forthcoming presidential election.

In a brief interview with reporters outside the deliberating chambers of the SDF Centre Regional Secretariat, Hon Osih, who will be participating at the presidential election for the second time since his debut in 2018, expressed optimism that 2025 will witness a positive change in the fortunes of the SDF.

The Member of Parliament, MP, representing Wouri Centre at the National Assembly, boasted of victory for the SDF at the election.

He was categorical that his party will emerge victorious at the October 12 poll, during which incumbent Biya, 92, will be seeking an eight term.

This may be the last NEC meeting I am chairing because as you know, the constitution of the SDF doesn’t permit the National Chairman to be the Head of State and still holding the same position…we are looking forward to winning this election, it is a very important meeting for all of us,” a visibly confident Osih said.

The lawmaker and bureau member at the National Assembly, disclosed to prying reporters that NEC members at the Yaounde meeting were “taking stock of where we are with our polling agents. You know, we have put ourselves to the challenge to have every polling station manned and so we are in the middle of that exercise right now. We getting reports from the field. We are confident that we will get there before October 11- one day before the election. From all the reports, we are 90% gone already but you know you always have amendments, corrections and things like that that occur”.

Osih was blunt that: “We are very confident and the reports we are getting from the field are very positive as well. We are looking forward to this election with optimism”.

Quizzed on the campaign strategy of the SDF for the forthcoming election, Osih disclosed that: “We will have a couple of rallies in the ten Regions. We will do as much as possible to have door-to-door campaigns. We want to be as effective as possible”

Osih said the SDF understands “that the most important thing is to secure the votes. We need to be at the polling stations…we are putting in 80% of our energy into that and it takes time and energy to get there”.

“We will have our rallies to sell our political programme. We will be present on the field. I will personally go round the whole country. We are looking forward to a very dynamic campaign,” he announced.

“We think that it is important to note here that the feedback we are getting from the field is that Cameroonians are showing a lot of political maturity. We are very enthusiastic about the fact that for once in a presidential campaign like this, we will be talking to people who are politically alert and that will make a big difference for us…we are looking forward to that,” he concluded.
