Biya’s re-election bid: John Achu lays groundwork for NW fundraiser in Douala tomorrow.

John Achu: Littoral Regional Coordinator for CPDM fundraiser

North West CPDM elite resident in Douala, in the Littoral Region and beyond, will tomorrow generously contribute financially to support incumbent President Biya’s campaign for the October 12 presidential election.

The Douala fundraiser comes nearly two weeks after their peers of Yaounde raised a whopping 250 million FCFA for the same purpose.

The Douala lap of the fundraising campaign, which is part of a series of fundraisers to be organised by North West CPDM nationwide, will assemble CPDM elite of the Region resident in the port city.

While the target of the fundraising hasn’t been made public, the event promises to raise millions for Biya’s re-election bid.

Ahead of tomorrow’s ceremony, the Littoral Regional Coordinator of the CPDM North West Elite Fundraiser for the electoral campaign of the party’s candidate, John Achu, says all is set for a successful fundraiser.

The Douala-based businessman, told CPDM print media outlet, L’Action, that contributions steadily coming in are “a clear indication that our champion, H.E Paul Biya, enjoys broad-based and genuine popular support”.

Achu disclosed that invitations have been sent to economic operators and individuals from all walks of life.

“We anticipate massive participation and unwavering support,” the coordinator told the media organ, stating that every effort is being made to surpass the success of their 2018 campaign “when we undertook a similar initiative in support of our candidate, Comrade Paul Biya”.

“This year, our approach is even more inclusive. We are extending our outreach beyond sons and daughters of the North West Region. We are reaching out to friends of the Region and supporters of President Biya, from all backgrounds,” he said, noting that tomorrow’s fundraising campaign goes beyond politics.

He said “it is a true demonstration of solidarity, unity, national integration and peaceful coexistence- values deeply cherished by our leader, H.E Paul Biya, Father of the Nation”.

Quizzed on how it feels like being chosen for the second time as Regional Coordinator for the fundraising, Achu, said it is both an honour and a challenge.

He said as Regional Coordinator, he has been given the opportunity to reaffirm his unwavering loyalty to the CPDM, and to its illustrious leader, President Paul Biya.

Achu continued: “As a patriot, I consider it my duty to stand up and play my part”.

“I am sincerely grateful to the CPDM North West elite for placing their confidence in me once again. President Biya represents peace and stability in Cameroon. It is only within such an environment that we can continue to grow and strengthen our business climate,” Achu added, before noting that: “As someone who has been an economic operator for over 30 years, I am fully committed to supporting the Head of State. I encourage others to join his caravan. Together, we will move Cameroon forward”.

Mobilisation for Biya

Tomorrow’s fundraising ceremony in Douala, it should be said, comes nearly two weeks after North West CPDM heavyweights resident in Yaounde, had staged a fundraiser in the capital city.

The event, which held on Saturday August 30, 2025, saw the raising of circa 250 million FCFA, to finance President Biya’s campaign for the October 12 presidential election.

The exercise was phase one of a multi-tier drive to mobilise resources for the Head of State’s re-election bid by North West CPDM supporters across the country.

The event saw some key CPDM officials and economic operators stepping to the fore and contributing attractively.

The goal, officials of the North West CPDM Central Committee Permanent Delegation say, is to ensure that when campaigns get underway, incumbent Paul Biya’s message is taken to the nooks and crannies of the North West Region without any hindrance.

Among those who stole the show during the exercise in Yaounde were regulars whose support for the CPDM and the Biya regime has been constant.

Prominent on the list were former minister, now economic operator, Shey Jones Yembe.  He doled out 25 million FCFA.

There was also Ntum-Kwifon Che Linidolf, President Director General, PDG of Merdolf Group, who donated 8 million FCFA to President Paul Biya’s campaign fund basket for the North West Region.

Lining up in similar momentum, was the General Manager, GM, of the Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi.

The Member of the Central Committee of the CPDM is the Centre Region Coordinator of the North West CPDM campaign fundraising drive.

Other notable contributions came in from the likes of Willy Frank Kepeden who is a friend of the North West CPDM. Kepeden dropped in 20 million FCFA for the campaign.

Several other sons and daughters of the North West Region resident in the Centre Region and other persons contributed to the fund.

The Interim Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development, Prof Fuh Calistus Gentry, was unanimously voted as the Finance Committee Chairperson of the North West CPDM fundraising drive.
