Ex-CPDM supporter claims party more divided than opposition.

Prof Messanga Nyamding

Erstwhile member of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party, Prof Messanga Nyamding, has claimed the political outfit is more divided than the opposition.

He made the claim on Sunday, August 31.

This was during the magazine programme, Club d’Elite, on Yaounde-based Vision 4 television.

The academic who was long axed from the ruling party insisted that the CPDM is currently buried in internal struggles not unrelated to succession at the helm of State. This, he said, is more serious than the divisions some say exist in the opposition.

"I won't even start listing all the internal conflicts faced by Biya’s supporters," Prof Nyamding said, further making several other spurious claims about a cabinet reshuffle in the offing.

He argued on the panel that there are some members of government who are rather working to see that their peers are removed from the next government.

This, he said without mentioning when such a change in Biya’s cabinet will be made.

"I've heard whispers in the corridors—talk of ministers being dismissed,” he further remarked, before boasting that he can cite names of minister being targeted.

Despite talking about challenges within the CPDM, Prof Nyamding delved into talks of a possible opposition alliance before the October 12 presidential election.

Going by him, an alliance among Prof Maurice Kamto, Bello Bouba Maigari and Issa Tchiroma has the capacity to defeat CPDM’s Paul Biya come October.

Unlike in other situations wherein the CPDM has responded to such declarations, none of its outspoken supporters have reacted to Prof Nyamding’s claims.

Even barons such as Prof Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, Coordinator of the CPDM Academy; Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo, CPDM Central Committee Communication Secretary; and Gregoire Owona, the party’s Deputy Secretary General who are known to always speak on behalf of the party, have not commented on the matter.
