Biya's campaign: NW CPDM begins nationwide fundraising.

North West heavyweights of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, staged a fundraiser in Yaounde on Saturday, August 30, raising circa 250 million FCFA to finance President Biya’s campaign for the October 12 presidential election.

The exercise is phase one of a multi-tier drive to mobilise resources for the Head of State’s re-election bid across the North West Region.

The event saw some key elite and economic operators stepping to the fore and contributing attractively.

The goal, officials of the North West CPDM Central Committee Permanent Delegation say, is to ensure when campaigns get underway, incumbent Paul Biya’s message is taken to the nooks and crannies of the North West Region without any hindrance.

Among those who stole the show during the exercise were regulars whose support for the CPDM and the Biya regime has been constant.

Prominent on the list was former minister, now economic operator, Shey Jones Yembe.  He doled out 25 million FCFA.

There was also Ntum-kwifon Che Linifolf, President Director General, PDG of Merdolf Sarl Group, who donated over 8 million FCFA to President Paul Biya’s campaign fund basket for the North West Region.

Lining up in similar momentum, was the General Manager, GM, of the Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi.

The Member of the Central Committee of the CPDM is the Centre Region Coordinator of the North West CPDM campaign fundraising drive.

Other notable contributions came in from the likes of Willy Frank Kepeden, who is a friend of the North West CPDM.

Kepeden dropped in 20 million FCFA for the campaign. Several other sons and daughters of the North West Region resident in the Centre Region and other persons, contributed to the fund.

Fund raising caravan to visit 10 Regions

Beyond the 250 million FCFA raised in Yaounde, The Guardian Post gathered that the caravan of the North West CPDM elite will storm the 10 Regions of the country.

Douala, in the Littoral Region, is already being projected to host the next lap of the drive. The exercise, being coordinated in the Littoral Region, is headed by   John Achu.

The North West CPDM Central Committee Permanent Delegation, under the leadership of its acting boss, Senator Regina Mundi, is at the heart of the drive.

The Senator Mundi-led team has set up a Finance Committee, headed by Interim Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Prof Fuh Calistus Gentry.

Enter Finance Committee Chairperson

In an interview granted Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, aired during the Sunday August 31 edition of the magazine programme, Cameroon Calling, the Chairperson of the North West CPDM fund raising Finance Committee, Prof Fuh Calistus Gentry, said the Region needs money to market its candidate.

He revealed that the money had increased to 255 million FCFA, expressing hope that before they go to Douala, the amount would have reached 300 million FCFA.

Prof Fuh Calistus stated that besides sons and daughters of the North West Region, “people came from everywhere. Somebody from the Centre Region was able to contribute a colossal amount of money. Nobody is forcing anyone”.

Given that the CPDM was created in the North West Region, Prof Fuh Calistus said the Region is simply leading the charge to power its candidate, Paul Biya, to victory. He insisted that those who have contributed the money are from all walks of life

“…there were people from all Regions of this country who joined their brothers and sisters from the North West Region, to exemplify the nation President Paul Biya has created. It doesn’t happen in any country,” Prof Fuh Calistus stated.

‘Why we need more money’

On why the CPDM elite of the North West Region is in search of so much money for Biya’s campaign, Prof Fuh Calistus said the Region has security challenges, in addition to the normal logistics needed for an election.

“…we have so many of our population displaced. We have many people in Bamenda who ought to vote in Nkambe. We have many people who are in Boyo who ought to vote,” he underscored, adding that: “Voting is a civic right and we want to make sure that people are given the opportunity to exercise their voting rights”.

Marketing a candidate during an election, the minister argued, needs much money.

“You need to put posters to campaign to convince people that President Paul Biya is the right man to lead this country,” he said.

“That is accepted in every democracy. So, everyone needs money to project their candidate. We need to advertise our candidate. We need to sell him as the best this country has as of now to ensure stability and prosperity,” he quipped.
