Cavaye, new Chinese Ambassador review Sino-Cameroon ties.

Chinese Ambassador exchanging gift with House Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, and the new Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cameroon, H.E. Xu Yong, have reviewed the strong bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.

This was during an audience the House Speaker granted the Chinese diplomat on Monday, August 18.

The audience, at the Cabinet of the House Speaker in Quartier-General, was an opportunity for the new diplomat to officially present himself to the Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguié Djibril.

The Chinese Ambassador used the opportunity of the audience to reaffirm his commitment to continue consolidating the actions that have already been undertaken by his predecessor.

He also expressed the gratitude of the Chinese people to President Paul Biya for accepting to collaborate President Xi Jinping in the construction of Cameroon’s new National Assembly Complex and subsequent christening of the edifice after his name.

For Ambassador Yong, the gesture illustrates mutual respect demonstrated by both countries and the exemplary nature of Sino-Cameroonian friendship.

Besides strengthening existing ties between Cameroon and China, both officials also reflected on enhancing ties with the Cameroon-China Parliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly.

The formal and cordial discussions between the two officials was punctuated with the exchange of gifts between the Speaker and the Chinese diplomat.

The Speaker was accompanied during the audience by some senior administrative officials of the National Assembly.

It should be recalled that following the inferno that partially ravaged the National Assembly in 2017, the government of Cameroon engaged the government of China for the construction of a new parliamentary complex with fund from Beijing.

The construction works which commenced in 2019, ended in 2024 with inauguration of the edifice in the presence of a representative of Chinese President.

The structure now stands out as an impressive landmark, with a commanding view of modern buildings sprouting up in the Ngoa Ekele neighborhood of Yaounde.

The architectural jewel is a 15-storey complex comprising a 400-seat hemicycle, a celebration hall, an office building, a fireguard building, an equipment room, a janitorial building, and other functional rooms, as well as a plaza, roads, fountains, outdoor parking lot, fences and other auxiliary facilities.
